Designed by our R&D team, this spreader bar (harness hook) will adapt perfectly to your harness and your morphology.

The big advantage of a spreader bar is not to squeeze your stomach. Indeed, when using a narrow hook, one without a spreader bar, the pull is centered on the strap, at the level of your navel. Meaning that the hook will move away from you when pulled on hard, which isn’t the best to lock your stance or to unhook quickly. It is also an effort that will tighten your belly and your flanks. Conversely, a spreader bar will distribute the effort on the strap in the axis of your hips: as a result the force goes around your back and not on your sides. We do not have this feeling of crushed floating ribs.
So you can really lean on the harness with a spreader bar while a simple hook only allows you to relieve yourself.

The foam around the spreader bar will protect your board, protect your ribs, and lay the hook gently on your body. No need to tighten the strap like crazy: the spreader finds its position naturally.

In profile, the hook opening is wide to make hooking and unhooking on the harness line as easy as possible. Seen from above, the hook is not flared like a kitesurfing hook: it is a narrow hook which facilitates unhooking. You just need to bring the wing towards you by 4cm and the harness line comes out of the hook. Tested on many prototypes, this hook depth is ideal for winging. It’s super safe. A beginner can use it as soon as he knows how to fly. No need to be a pro.

The harness strap slides through the spreader. This is important because a wing requires a slight offset to tow as much as possible. With this authorized sliding of the hook on the strap, you just need to jiggle it with your hip to slide the spreader backwards and obtain the best traction out of your wing. It’s not an absolute necessity to do so, but when racing the gain is significant.

This accessory will boost your learning curve in an obvious way: less energy consumed when sailing and therefore more energy available for the take off and transition phases which are key for progression.

Its design with its EVA cover for comfort and imitation leather for longevity is the result of the work of our R&D team. The EVA foam is lined with straps to ensure the strength of the seams; it is well thought out in order to follow you for a long time.

For any session of more than an hour, using a harness is a welcome relief when you are not a pro or a fitness champion. And generally speaking, it will soon be a habit for all wingfoilers to protect their body, especially their back.

A good harness line completely changes your sessions: you save your energy for the most intense phases: jumps, surfs, maneuvers; and save yourself during the transition phases: sailing back to the peak, sailing upwind, long tacks.

Saving your energy during the session also allows you to recover more quickly from your efforts for the up-coming sessions of the week or the weekend! What is the point of riding full on for 1 hour when you can do 3 hours every day for the same effort?

Beyond these rapidly palpable advantages, at GONG we have a history in wing foiling which allows us to have a glimpse at the trauma associated with this activity. If at first the effort without a harness is very good for your body, overdoing it is dramatic: tendonitis, various types of wear, general fatigue, etc. are common. And the demand for ever more performance in wing foiling will only reinforce this concern.

Construction

The construction is durable: a high-end stainless steel hook developed by GONG and a cover made of several materials to adapt to each need of our specifications:

• EVA for maximum comfort and hold
• Nylon webbing to reinforce the EVA and ensure durable seams
• Imitation leather for the finish and friction areas.

This spreader bar has been specially developed to be mounted on our harness. It is also compatible with certain leashes or harnesses from other manufacturers. Just check the dimensions of the opening for the strap. We strongly recommend the use of our GONG sheathed harness line which is much more effective than a simple rope.
