The Elips is our ultimate kite for performing in waves.

Presentation

This surf kite paradoxically draws its DNA from big air. The madness of kite loops applied to wave riding!

We extracted the best from a wave kite and a kite dedicated to loops to design the Elips: the radical wave kite.

Particularly stable, powerful, compact, yet with an incredible rotation potential. It's perfectly positioned in the window to provide the ideal power at the precise moment of the surf move.

Capable of completely disappearing, yet also capable of pushing a turn to the extreme, it's exactly where it needs to be to tear the waves apart.

Powerful, you can ride with smaller sizes. The kite is even faster and more agile.

Developed and validated with Airton and Francesco, it's their number 1 kite in the waves.

Shape
3 STRUT DESIGN

Its 3-strut design is the best compromise between rigidity and lightness, offering tremendous versatility. The 3 struts provide excellent responsiveness while maintaining profile stability for control. These qualities enhance its range of use and performance. It's a reactive and lightweight wing that responds perfectly in maneuvers, a big advantage in waves but also in larger sizes that remain agile.

This balance between stability and lightness promotes the overall equilibrium of the kite in all its uses, which is essential for progression. This kite is typically designed to smooth out errors and encourage trying new things.

With 3 struts, it's also the best design for traveling with a kite that does everything while remaining lightweight in luggage.

HYBRID C SHAPE

The Elips is a hybrid C shape: a modern and dynamic design that maximizes performance while remaining simple and lightweight.

The turning radius is reduced, resulting in a precise and lively kite that enhances both feeling and performance. This balance between agility and profile stability allows for very healthy original settings, ensuring an exceptionally clean bar return that enables effortless micrometric control. The direct feeling remains, allowing you to connect intimately with the kite.

SHORT BRIDLE

The new reduced diameter bridles minimize drag while maintaining impeccable mechanical characteristics. The kite flies much sleeker. Your Elips adapts to your preferences thanks to adjustments on both the rear and front bridles:

  • 3 rear attachment points to adjust responsiveness and bar presence according to individual preferences.
  • 3 adjustments on the front bridle:

- Outward for more power, less bar presence, a slightly wider turning radius, and more stability for freestyle.

- Inward for a less powerful kite in the front/harness, faster turning, and more depower.

- The central adjustment for perfect versatility.

The new short bridling system enhances feedback, resulting in a much more direct feeling. Combined with a pulley-less system, it yields a precise and swift kite. The Elips is a demanding kite designed for experienced pilots.

REACTIVE TIPS

The wingtips play a major role in your kite's behavior. By combining strong tension perfectly distributed across the entire kite and precisely calculated tip twist, we have endowed the Elips with exceptional responsiveness.

This kite offers endless possibilities for top-level performance.

MODERATE RATIO

The Elips's moderate ratio offers a very stable feeling that allows for fun in all conditions, especially in gusty winds and windless spots, as well as in full onshore conditions.

With this compact kite, we have the best balance between power and maneuverability, perfect for wave riding.

The power of the kite is applied even at low speeds. You can feel well supported in the air. The feedback is clear and allows for easy adjustment. This linearity in the kite's power is combined with a bridling system that allows for instant depowering. Everything is under control.

Everything about this Elips is designed to make you feel confident to push it to the limit.

It's an incredibly instinctive and safe kite that just begs to be moved in every direction.

EASY RELAUNCH

The highly curved leading edge facilitates the rotation of the kite on the water to position it on one ear for easy relaunching. This ability is essential for quickly getting back into the waves, for example. The Elips also relaunches easily in reverse by pulling strongly on both back lines, which is essential for avoiding troubles in the set.

3D View

Durable Construction.

The Elips is built with the best materials available for a kite, using Dacron.

Our decades-long experience in kite making, along with all the advancements made in wing technology, have enabled us to push the performance of our kites to unprecedented levels.

The Dacron DP 175LL, combined with seams tested on a bench, provides the best in terms of rigidity and material resistance for the leading edge in Dacron.

The proven triple ripstop fabric offers perfect longevity and resistance with an ultra-lightweight of 55g/m2.

Strategically placed reinforcements ensure the durability of your equipment:

  • Insigna on the leading edge in areas prone to friction.
  • Tips reinforced with Dacron DP175LL and Nylon 1680D on the last sections of the leading edge.
  • Trailing edge in Dacron DP175LL to resist flapping over time.

Kite Elips 5 m2 / NAVY

Technical specifications:

  • Leading edge and struts in Dacron DP175LL: rigid skeleton.
  • Trailing edge in Dacron DP175LL for good resistance to snags and better longevity in the wind.
  • Canopy in triple ripstop fabric: highly resistant and dynamic.
  • Strategically placed Insigna reinforcements on the leading edge for better durability.
  • Tips saver in nylon 1680D to protect the tips from abrasion.
  • Cousin 2.3mm sheathed Dyneema bridle and LIROS DC701 connection: very thin, high quality, and low elongation.
  • 100% detachable bridles for easy replacement of wear parts.
  • Stainless steel A4 friction rings that do not jam or wear out.
  • One Pump system for quick inflation and deflation.
  • Micro fiberglass battens on the trailing edge tips: lightweight and effective against flapping.

Shape:

  • 3-strut design: excellent weight-to-stability ratio for outstanding performance while remaining easy to pilot (relatively lightweight).
  • Hybrid C shape: modern, stable, predictable, and dynamic design. Projection coefficient: 62.9%: most closed arc in the range.
  • Moderate ratio (4.5) for good power and a hyper-healthy and linear feeling across the entire window. It is also very stable at zenith and corrects many mistakes.
  • 100% performance profile: set back for maximum speed of the kite and stability in high wind range. Quite some draft (compared to its narrow cord, hence thin in absolute value) for incredible lift and excellent looping resource.
  • Medium leading edge for a fast and slim kite in the air, allowing for focused surfing without struggling against the kite. But a kite that does not fold in case of a crash for an emergency relaunch.
  • Significant draft in proportion to the profile cord for power at low speeds and good grip in radical actions. But this draft is thin in absolute terms since the ratio is high, therefore with a low cord.
  • Waveriding outline with a very curved leading edge for quick relaunch in waves. The kite can roll on the water to return to takeoff position by gently pulling a back line.
  • Centered surface for a compact kite capable of drifting and pivoting without falling. This shape provides a lot of power, allowing for significant under-tuning compared to other kites, and therefore piloting a much more agile kite.
  • Segmented struts: stiffer at the connection with the leading edge: very clear behavior, more power at equal surface, more stability in high wind range. We have really excellent profile retention in high wind for a 3-strut kite. More efficient relaunch.
  • Rounded tips with moderate surface to free the kite in rotation. Inspired by our big air kite, the twist of the Elips deforms the internal tip to the curve for even faster turning and on the ear. You can rotate the kite on the spot or make it exit the window by activating more or less. It's amazing in surfing.
  • Moderate internal twist of the tips for more reactivity to bar actions and radical rotations. Isolated, this twist is weak because it is actually the result of the very high tension applied to the entire kite. The result is a kite that twists very strongly when piloted.
  • Very strong canopy tension on each section for very reactive kite piloting (direct feeling: no latency).
  • Smooth and direct  bar feel: you always know where your kite is by constant and measured pressure on the bar. It's a kite that feels good and allows you to think about surfing rather than piloting in the window.
  • Important depower for a wide range of use and a forgiving kite. We really have full power sheeted in and a big depower when sheeted out. Large amplitude that ensures in surfing not to be overwhelmed in turns and tubes.
  • "Self-stabilizing" shape with its moderate ratio and significant draft that "grabs" air. The set-back tips distribute the mass a bit towards the back of the kite to avoid stalling/dropping. You have in your hands a predictable and healthy kite for maximum freedom.
  • Short front bridle to prevent it from tangling in the tips and make the kite more reactive; struck on 6 points, without pulley for a hyper-direct and uncompromising feeling. The absence of a pulley also avoids problems in case of crashes in the waves.
  • 3 adjustments on the front bridle:
    • outwards of the kite for more power, less bar presence, a slightly wider turning radius, and more stability for freestyle.
    • inwards for a less powerful kite in the front/harness that turns faster and more depower.
    • the central adjustment for perfect versatility.
  • 3 attachment points for the back lines to adjust reactivity and bar presence according to each one's feeling.

Buying guide

For Whom?

The wave queen, she will definitely appeal more to a lover of aggressive turns and surfing.

For What?

The Elips is a kite that turns. With an endlessly adjustable turning radius and outstanding stability, it excels in surfing. Rather powerful, it's a kite mostly ridden in light wind conditions to favor maneuverability. But it's also extremely stable in high winds, no worries there. Its program is more about taking the most efficient small kite possible on a surfboard, but it will also be great on a twin tip if you want to switch things up.

Understanding our kite range:

Display : the freeride kite for rapid progression.

Vertigo : high-performance kite for all disciplines from unhooked to surfing.

Ayto : the ultimate 5-strut kite for big air and kite loops.

Unik : lightweight mono-strut freeride kite for light wind, foiling, and waves.

Strutless : super light kite for light wind and freeride/freerace.

Strutless Revo : ultra-light and maneuverable kite for foiling and surfing.

Elips : the ultimate kite for waves.

What Size?

The Elips has a very stable and easy-to-control high wind range. However, it's a kite that you'll mostly ride in light wind conditions for its power and maneuverability work wonders in light wind.

Choose your kite following our recommendations below. Wind ranges always depend on your weight, skill level, and the board you're using!

Bar Size:

The choice of your bar size will have a direct impact on the overall feel of your kite. Remember that the longer your bar, the easier it will be to turn your kite. This detail is important when using larger kites, especially in very light winds, to maintain good responsiveness. The longer leverage compensates for this natural loss of responsiveness.

On the contrary, the smaller the kite, the faster it will turn! So, using a smaller bar allows you to balance behaviors and calm down kite reactions. Therefore, consider these factors when choosing the size of your bar and adjust the control to the feeling you like and the conditions you encounter.

  • If you prefer smooth and gradual control, you should "undersize" your bar.
  • If you prefer fast and responsive control, you should choose a larger bar.

The key size is the 52cm bar. It is the most versatile bar to choose if you want to have only one bar for a quiver of 7-9-12 or 8-11 or even 8-10-13.

When you are equipped with an extended kite quiver, it's best to also have a range of bar sizes to maintain a balanced feel when switching from a small kite to a larger one. Also, note that having two bars reduces wear on parts by half!

Here are our recommendations:

The above recommendations are based on the behavior of GONG kites. Since our bars are compatible with a wide range of kites, you can adapt your choice based on the type of kite used.

Line Length:

Your Feel-X bar comes standard with 80cm front lines, 19m of lines, and 3m extensions already mounted. The original setup is the most versatile and will be your best choice for 90% of your sessions.

One of the main advantages of the Feel-X bar is its great tolerance provided by its shape. By playing with its lengths, or even modifying them with our extensions (sold separately), you further enhance its versatility!

  • 22m Lines:
The "standard" length provides a more progressive and predictable bar feeling (recommended setting for progressing kiters). Your flight window will be larger, offering more power at takeoff. This is the setting to favor in light to medium wind conditions, and for everyday freeride use.
  • 19m Lines:
Shorter lines offer a more direct response from the kite, increasing its reactivity. The flight window will be shorter. This is the perfect setting for advanced kiters, especially for wave riding or foil for more agility. If you choose to ride with shorter lines, you will also gain comfort in high wind conditions.

Note that 22m and 19m are not extreme line lengths and remain a fine adjustment to your piloting sensation.

Frequent questions
Is the Elips a beginner-friendly kite?
The Elips is a highly maneuverable kite but also accessible with its moderate aspect ratio. It allows for the most technical moves without necessarily requiring advanced piloting skills. To fully unleash its performance potential, being an experienced pilot helps, of course. However, it's not exclusive to advanced riders.
Is the Elips a versatile kite?
It's a kite that can do it all. With its shape inherited from the Ayto for big air, the Elips has that spirited side needed in other disciplines such as twin tip riding or executing maneuvers in kite foiling.
Is the Elips easy to relaunch?
Particularly rounded, it flips over in a second and relaunches. It's truly the easiest alongside the Display. And its leading edge section is sufficient to return to shape after being tossed around in a wave. Ready to relaunch!
Which wave kite to choose?
In our ultra-comprehensive range, we have different "wave" kites. Depending on your conditions and level, you should lean towards one model rather than another. • Display: The freeride kite, excellent for fast progression, is also a very pleasant kite in the waves for its highly stable flight qualities and maneuverability. A very good kite to try surfing without difficulty. • Vertigo: This high-performance freeride kite is a jack-of-all-trades that will also perform well in the waves with its maneuverability and responsiveness. Its range of use is also an undeniable quality in surfing to avoid being overwhelmed. • Ayto: 100% big air and kite loops, this kite is extreme. But counterintuitively, it is also excellent in surfing with its supersonic speed and formidable maneuverability. Pro pilot only! • Unik: This light wind kite and rather underpowered navigation is fantastic in surfing. Firstly because it's so light that you forget about it. Secondly, because it stays glued to the sky, far from punishing you for the slightest piloting error. • Strutless Revo: The ultimate kite for its maneuverability in foil, it's also delightful for purists in surfing. You kite to surf, and only to surf: that's exactly what it offers. • Elips: The queen of waves, this kite has everything we love in a kite designed for surfing: maneuverability, stability, resourcefulness, drift, precision, tolerance, incredible low-end range, fine piloting, it's the queen of the spot.
What inflation pressure?
Several factors should be taken into account: An under-inflated kite will be unstable and difficult to control in gusty winds. Relaunching will also be more challenging with a kite that doesn't hold its shape. An over-inflated kite increases the risk of explosion during a crash and will fatigue the seams and materials of your kite more quickly. If you leave your kite inflated in the sun for an extended period, we recommend slightly deflating it to reduce the risk of seam fatigue.
Kite with or without pulleys?
The Elips is a pro-level kite designed for waves. Its pulley-less bridles, like the Ayto, give it a highly reactive and direct behavior, ideal for surfing. We have opted for a short bridle without pulleys. This type of bridle is both the lightest and the strongest. It reduces drag for a kite that's always more responsive. It also facilitates relaunching by minimizing the risk of snagging.
Bar Compatibility?
The Elips has been developed to work with the FeelX bar. Our bar features 4 lines of equal lengths and a low V on the front lines. The attachments for the lines at the bridle level are: • Loops on the kite side for the front lines • Knots on the kite side for the back lines
How to maintain my kite equipment?
To increase the longevity of your gear, both how you use it and its regular maintenance are crucial. A key point during usage is not to leave your kite inflated for long periods without use! Flapping in the wind can cause premature wear of the materials, as can prolonged exposure to UV rays. Frequent rinsing of your kite with running water is also not recommended. The chlorine in tap water can damage the surface treatments of your kite. However, you should favor storing your kite dry and remove any excess sand. Always rinse your bar with fresh water to remove sand and salt. Also, remember to open the safety release to rinse the inside. Let it dry before reassembling. In case of a torn strut or leading edge, use your repair kit, or check our spare parts section to order a replacement piece. Systematically inspect the condition of your kite. Identify any holes or cuts and repair them before they worsen. If you have damaged your kite due to improper use, you can have it repaired directly at the GONG workshop.
