The HIPE Like is the beginner-friendly inflatable board that lifts off early in light wind thanks to its glide, while staying very easy day to day.

Presentation

The HIPE Like was designed to make Wing foiling simple when the wind is light or inconsistent: it glides fast, takes off early, and stays accessible.

Its approach is different from the HIPE First. Where the First focuses on maximum lateral stability and a compact, ultra-reassuring feel, the HIPE Like prioritizes overall balance with more longitudinal stability and a shape built around glide before lift-off. The result is straightforward: you build speed more naturally, you set up take-off with less effort, and everything feels easier as soon as power is limited.

That’s exactly where the HIPE Like makes a real difference for many beginners. Its glide helps you avoid being overpowered, and it lets you skip a large part of the pumping. For riders who don’t enjoy pumping, or who find it technical and tiring, this is a major comfort upgrade: the board accelerates on its own, and take-off becomes more linear, smoother, and more consistent.

This behavior is especially valuable on lakes and inland spots. The water surface is often easy, but the wind can be “asthmatic”, irregular, with lulls and holes. In those conditions, having a board that keeps the accessibility of a beginner platform while bringing more drive and glide helps massively: more starts, better speed retention, and sessions that remain productive even when the wind doesn’t cooperate.

At the same time, the HIPE Like remains a true learning board. With its 5’’ thickness, getting on the board is easy, and when kneeling you immediately feel properly supported. The wide, soft, non-slip deck pad maximizes comfort during the phases where you reposition often. And because the deck is designed for strapless riding, the stance area is clean, wide, and comfortable: you can move around without obstacles or pressure points.

In terms of feel, it’s a little less “locked in” laterally than a HIPE First at the same volume, but in return it offers simpler acceleration, more natural glide, and noticeably higher efficiency in light wind. Once flying, it stays calm and forgiving enough to keep progressing, refine your lines, and work into your first maneuvers at your own pace.

Available in 3 sizes, from 6’4 (120L) to 7’4 (150L), the HIPE Like covers light-wind constraints and adapts to different body types with a clear logic: useful volume and effective length, for easier take-offs when conditions are soft.

Finally, it’s an inflatable in the most practical sense: it packs into a bag, travels easily, inflates quickly, and delivers a feel very close to a hard board on the water. Always ready to go, it lets you make the most of every window and progress without complicating your life.

Shape
Outline

The HIPE Like is designed to take off with the first gusts of wind in wing foiling. It's also the perfect board for easy introductions to lowkiting and SUP foiling.

Its sleek outline will give it all the glide necessary to facilitate take-off.

Speed is acquired naturally as soon as the board starts moving.

The even distribution of volume facilitates the kneeling/pre-takeoff phases with a stable board that is flat on the water.

Its width provides the necessary balance to easily grasp the first flights and offers the little touch of comfort that you will appreciate as you progress.

Rocker

Thanks to its tight rocker, the glide is optimized. This is ideal for light winds and makes first flights easier.

The takeoff phase is boosted. It's easy and at least as fast as with a rigid wing.

It's truly amazing.

Deck

The HIPE Like deck is flat and wide enough.

Its pad covers the entire usable surface, allowing for serene and comfortable movement on knees and standing.

The feet are free, the strapless style allows for an intuitive glide.

Tail

The squash tail provides stability, maneuverability, and control. It prevents the tumbling effect in choppy water and compensates for foot placement errors.

Energy is saved with each takeoff, transitions are mastered more quickly, and sessions are soon longer.

Rails

The rails are round, like on all inflatable boards. But we used this natural shape to help the water glide over the board. The water doesn't stick to the rails.

Nose

Its generous and buoyant nose cuts through the water. The sensation is pleasant, even in choppy conditions. The board glides until it generates enough speed for the foil to take off.

3D View

More conditions. More sessions.

There HIPE Like was conceived as a versatile and adaptable board suitable for all levels, but above all capable of performing on all playing fields.

In wing foiling, his preferred domain, it offers an easy, stable and effective base for learning, progressing and having fun in small spaces with an effortless takeoff.
Its balanced shape and natural glide make it immediately accessible and also a board perfectly suited to lowkiting and SUP foiling.

Beginners will choose a comfortable volume to maximize stability and ease of use, while more experienced riders will opt for a volume closer to their weight in order to gain in responsiveness and commitment, without ever losing the tolerant DNA of the board.

A unique inflatable board capable of keeping up with your progress: a true game changer that will multiply the number of sessions you can have, whatever the conditions!

A foil in place in seconds

The Smart Connection System (SCS) invented by GONG is revolutionary practical and reliable. It only takes a moment to install your foil on your board.

If you're a beginner in foiling, this might not mean much to you yet, but there's nothing worse than spending 10 long minutes blindly aligning your foil track nuts with your foil. With the SCS we've developed, you won't experience this struggle time saving on land to pass more time on the water, especially during the initial assembly stages.

Precise adjustment, track nuts and screws in place on the plate, plug and play. No risk of loss!
We deliver this invaluable aid directly to you with the HIPE First. This version, specifically designed for inflatable boards, is 100% safe for your board.

A strapless board: room to learn, freedom to ride

The HIPE Like, a 100% strapless board, offers you a completely clear pad surface, for maximum comfort and freedom.

  • On your knees, you benefit from stable and unobstructed support.
  • Standing up in flight offers unparalleled freedom in your first maneuvers, whether in Freeride or Freefly.

While straps provide precise anchoring and facilitate certain technical reference points, strapless riding opens the way to a smoother gliding sensation, similar to surfing.

Image

A double diamond full deckpad

The 5mm thick high-end full pad, brings a maximum grip and comfort in navigation.

Its Double Diamond groove is the most robust and effective in terms of anti-slip to provide maximum stability when learning to sail.

Very different from the dropstitch coating of the board, you immediately feel that your foot is in the right place on the pad.

The absence of a kicker at the tail allows you to roll it tighter and get back on the board more easily.

Image

Two boards in one

HIPE boards, as their name suggests “High Inflatable Performance Evolution“ are the result of solid development, merging the best of high-end composite and inflatable.

The HIPE Like consists of a safe and generous float featuring Woven Dropstitch technology with double rails combined with our lightweight carbon plate that absorbs all the stresses of the foil, this innovative GONG two-in-one board is revolutionary in terms of weight, rigidity, practicality, and safety.

A jewel of composite craftsmanship made entirely of prepreg, stringers, and high-density foam, the plate is securely bonded beneath the inflatable structure. It covers the entire stance between the rider's feet. Mechanical forces are therefore perfectly transmitted to the foil, yet it remains short enough to allow the board to be packed in a backpack. This allows you to enjoy all the advantages of an inflatable board without compromising your riding experience.

The advantages are numerous:

  • Weight, unrivaled today.
  • Easy to use, on land but also in water.
  • Transport, of course.
  • Durability because the inflatable is not susceptible to impacts.
  • Safety if you hit your board.
  • 95% of the performance of a rigid frame.

Buying guide

For whom?

If you are looking for a versatile, easy board to start and progress in foiling without having to pump like crazy to take off: the HIPE Like is made for you.

  • In wing foiling, the HIPE Like is THE accessible board for a beginner who will start in small conditions: inland water, slightly weak summer thermals… basically all conditions below 15 knots.
  • In lowkite, you will have a board with sufficient length and width to smoothly gain speed before taking off.
  • In SUP foiling, the most important thing is to be able to paddle straight on a regular SUP. The rest is simply a matter of technique and time spent in the water to improve. The absence of foot strap inserts makes foot movement easier in SUP foiling.

Each size is easy, you just need to choose THE right size according to your level, physical condition and practice.

For what?

On land, it inflates and folds up in minutes and is shockproof, making it perfect for travel. And it's incredibly lightweight.

For a first board, you will have a wide range of progression ahead of you in wing, lowkite and SUP foil, strapless.

As a complement to your quiver, it's a smart choice for those looking to complement their everyday board to cover a wide range of alternatives: lightwind, lowkite, SUP foil… no more excuses for missing a session!

Which HIPE should I start with?

If you want to get started easily without using the foil, then HIPE Learn is for you.

If you want to start out and only sail strapless, then the HIPE First is for you.

On an inland body of water with a bit of balance, it's the HIPE Like .

If you want to start out and have the most progressive board possible, it's the HIPE Perf .

This news will give you all the keys to understanding between HIPE to get started.

For those in a hurry, here's a summary:

What size?

The HIPE Like is a board designed for learning. Several sizes are available to meet the needs of each user according to their level, physical condition, and intended use.

In wing foiling:

Beginner

You can take a volume sufficient to float easily, on the order of your weight + 60 = volume.

  • Example: I weigh 80kg + 60 = 140L to float. Which means that with 140L or more I'll be fine.

Comfort

You can take on a sufficient volume to float, on the order of your weight + 30 = volume.

  • Example: I weigh 80kg + 30 = 110L to float. This means that with 110L or more I'll be fine, provided I have a good level of wing foiling skill.

A small table that summarizes all of this:

In SUP foiling, you absolutely must have a positive volume balance. Your weight plus the board's weight must be less than the board's volume. Don't hesitate to choose a board with a bit more volume and width if you're unsure of your balance. And be careful of the "row" effect, which will cause you to spin out of control if you're not a skilled SUP paddler.

To start, you can take a volume sufficient to float, on the order of your weight + 50 = volume.

  • Example: I weigh 80kg + 50 = 120L to float. This means that with a 5'11" board of 135L I will be comfortable to start with.

Which quiver buddies?

The HIPE Like will be perfect for enjoying the wind in wing or lowkite, depending on your desires and the strength of the wind, in SUP foil it will be perfect in small waves.

You can, of course, complement it with a range of stand-up paddleboards without foils. And surfboards for days when the waves aren't suitable for foiling.

Once you've mastered the technique for jumping, a strapped board will open up new freeride possibilities and allow you to try some freestyle moves in the bumps. Whether you're going for an inflatable or rigid board , this article will give you the keys to understanding the differences and guiding your progression towards your preferred style.

Which shape should I choose?

The concepts behind each inflatable board in our range can be summarized very simply:

  • HIPE FIRST: the perfect inflatable foil board for beginners and progression, strapless.
  • HIPE LIKE: the alternative to the HIPE First designed to take off early and remain easy.
  • HIPE LEARN: the inflatable for learning: flat on the water, first flights and SUP foil compatible.
  • HIPE PERF: the inflatable with 95% of the performance of the rigid in an easy and progressive shape.
  • HIPE CRUZADER: the inflatable “downwinder” for the highest performance in wing foiling in lightwind and obviously in DW.
  • HIPE DIAMOND: the mid-length board with the glide of a downwinder and the agility of a compact board.
  • HIPE FREEFLY: the ultimate in strapless inflatable foil boarding.
  • HIPE PRO: the inflatable board for scoring in surfing / freestyle.

Which foil wings?

In the V3 Perf Series range, beginners will progress the fastest with an XL front wing (regardless of their weight between 50kg and 90kg) and a stabilizer of approximately 45cm. Above 90kg, an XXL front wing is a plus for getting airborne early.

More information is available in the article on the V3 foil range.

In Wing:

If you are shy, start in X-Over.

If you have prior experience with board sports, the Ascent is the preferred choice.

If you have talent, start with Curve H.

For beginners:

In the X-Over range: extremely easy and efficient wings at low speeds for easy beginners:

  • M for 50kg -> 65kg and all wind forces.
  • L for 65kg -> 75kg and all wind forces.
  • XL for 75kg -> 85kg and all wind strengths.
  • XXL for 85kg and over or for winds less than 15 knots.

The Ascent range will be more demanding for beginners. In return, it will support you further in your progression. Here's how to select your size:

  • S below 65kg and all wind strengths.
  • M for 65kg -> 75kg and all wind forces.
  • L for 75kg -> 85kg and all wind forces.
  • XL for 85kg -> 95kg and all wind strengths.
  • XXL for 95kg and over or for winds less than 15 knots.

The size of the front wing determines the speed/lift ratio. The smaller the wing, the faster you will go, but you will be uncomfortable at low speeds.

The stabilizers play a major role. They determine the stability of the foil and help with its lift, but at the expense of the foil's maximum speed.

Thus, thick stabilizers are slower than thin stabilizers, but provide much more lift, and are therefore effective at low speeds and in calm conditions. A larger stabilizer span prevents loss of control but reduces maneuverability.

In SUP foil:

If you have very small waves or a large build, start with an X-Over wing.

The Ascent remains a good compromise when you have the basics.

If you are skilled, go for a Curve H wing, which is faster.

For beginners:

In the X-Over range: extremely easy and efficient wings at low speeds for easy beginners:

  • L below 65kg or powerful waves.
  • XL for 65kg -> 75kg or for soft waves.
  • XXL for 75kg and over or very soft waves.

The Ascent range will be more demanding for beginners. In return, it will support you further in your progression. Here's how to select your size:

  • M below 65kg or powerful waves.
  • Size L for 65kg -> 75kg, fits everywhere.
  • XL for 75kg -> 85kg or for soft waves.
  • XXL for 85kg or very soft waves.

Which foil mast?

In Wing:

During your first few sessions, you can feel more confident with a short mast (62cm). Falls on your first flights will be less dramatic. But aside from launching, you'll have everything to gain with a long mast (85cm and above).

More length = more margin = easier = more efficient.

Unlike kitefoiling, wing foiling doesn't involve much resistance from the wing because it pulls less. Therefore, the mast angle is lower, making it easier to control a tall mast in wing foiling. And since the boards used are much larger than in kite foiling, the inertia is greater. As a result, your foil is less erratic. Everything is calmer. So don't be afraid of a long mast.

In choppy conditions, during transitions, and in lulls, a tall mast will be ten times more enjoyable. It will prevent you from hitting the ground and give you the necessary clearance for all your maneuvers.

In SUP foil:

The 62cm aluminum mast is perfect. If you're a pro, upgrade to a 70cm carbon mast – a truly masterful feel.

Foil positioning?

For GONG foils, place the plate in the center of the US rails to start and move it forward a few centimeters when you start transitions (sign of good progress).

The further forward you move it, the more the board rises. The further back you move it, the more the nose of the board dips.

Be careful not to move it too far forward. There's often a tendency to not let the back foot do the work, especially when coming from kitefoiling. However, moving the foil back a little forces you to put more weight on your back foot, resulting in a more balanced stance and reduced effort.

What paddle length?

If you want to use the HIPE Like in SUP foil, you will need a paddle between your height minus 10cm and your height.

What accessories?

Safety is of paramount importance for the practice of board sports, and even more so when it comes to foil sports.

A wing leash is essential. Once released, if the wing is not held by its leash, it will immediately fly away several dozen meters from you, and it will only stop its course once it is blocked by an obstacle which will damage it in most cases.

A board leash is also very important, especially when learning. It keeps your board close to you. You keep a safety float within easy reach and, most importantly, prevent it from injuring others. Choose a 6-foot leash with a minimum diameter of 7mm. Check its condition before each session and replace it annually. It's your life jacket.

To practice in the best conditions, it is absolutely essential to wear a protective helmet and an impact vest.

We have also developed a range of Bodyguard textiles, which provide additional protection against the risk of cuts associated with foiling. The risk is always present, but it is even greater during the learning phase.

We strongly recommend that you protect yourself as much as possible.

Good to know:

Never leave your board in the sun, especially an inflatable board, and even less so a black carbon fiber board, which will heat up very quickly. You risk it peeling off!

Don't screw in beyond the bottom of the box, or you'll end up inside the inflatable. We supply non-through US track nuts, but be careful.

Never let your foil board get tossed around in the waves, especially near the shore. You must protect it from major impacts. A wave that sweeps your board away and rolls it can cause serious damage.

Equipments

SCS System

The composite plate is equipped with dual SCS ( Smart Connection System ) entry boxes for easy foil installation and adjustment. The double holes correspond to the stance of the holes on your GONG foil's mounting plate. The foil is presented with the squares already mounted on the plate, which slide into the rails without disassembly. Slide the foil in, tighten the four screws, and you're ready to ride.

To simplify foil assembly, our US mounting squares are connected by a carbon fiber rod and included with the board. This saves time during setup and ensures precise adjustments. No more risk of losing the squares: simply leave them screwed onto the plate and slide them into the US rails through the four insertion holes. No need to disassemble anything: just tighten the screws and you're good to go!

Adjusting the foil is also easier and more precise with the adjustment information written on the plate.

Carrying handle

The handle integrated into the carbon plate on the hull significantly improves comfort when launching and carrying the boat over short distances. Furthermore, it has no impact on the rigidity and strength of our plate, which remain flawless.

Full deck pad

The premium 5mm thick full pad provides maximum grip and comfort while riding. This Double Diamond groove pad offers excellent traction and reassuring cushioning.

Very different from the dropstitch coating of the board, you immediately feel if your foot is properly placed on the pad.

Compartmented carrying bag

The HIPE First comes in a super practical and robust carrying bag.

It is designed for comfortable travel and without excess baggage fees on most airlines!

The backpack straps are very well padded and comfortable. The handles are super sturdy and pleasant to grip. The generously sized front pocket allows you to store your accessories and personal belongings without the risk of losing them. And the compression straps reduce the bag's volume to a minimum. Integrated compartments in the back of the front panel allow you to securely and neatly store your foil components and hardware.

Nothing is missing!

Pump, screws and repair kit

The included dual-action rapid inflation pump is super efficient for being the first in the water.

All the screws for the foil top plate are supplied with the board.

A repair kit is also included in case of damage (please note that the kit does not include glue, which you can easily find at your local hardware store (PVC glue)). We also stock the components for your board so we can easily repair it. Everything on an inflatable board can be repaired.

Included equipment:

  • ICS carbon plate.
  • Double Diamond 5mm integral deck pad: non-slip and durable deck covering.
  • 2 non-through SCS inserts paired by a carbon fiber rod.
  • Screws for foil plate: TF M6 T30 screws x4 in 20mm and 25mm with 4 cup washers.
  • Leash plug at the tail so you never lose your board.
  • High-pressure inflation valve on the nose for easy deflation and rolling of the board.
  • Dual action rapid inflation pump with multiple nozzles (compatible with a wing).
  • Compartmented carrying bag.
  • Repair kit (glue not included).
