Description

Program

The super playful wings to get started and progress!

Introduction

The X-Over will be the wing on which you’ll learn how to take off, stabilize the flight and nail your first maneuvers.

The X-Over is the reassuring front wing that will facilitate your first flights on a foil, be it on wing, surf, SUP or kite foiling equipment.

Its ultra-smooth take-off, its stability, its control and its predictable character make it the perfect front wing to quickly learn how to sail with a wing or a kite, or make your first long down the line waves on a surf or SUP foiling board.

The X-Over supports your progression in every perspective. It allows you to take off early, to have a blast surfing, pump, make thrilling turns and go pretty fast in relation to its volume. It is an accessible shape, efficient for its volume and which will excel in all foiling disciplines: winging, prone foiling, SUP foiling, dockstarts…

The great strength of this front wing is its versatility over time. Perfect for your first flights, its glide and forgiveness will allow you to go very far in your progression without having to upgrade your foil. Nothing is off the table with this front wing so have as much fun as you can with it. It’s a front wing on which you’ll be surefooted so go for it.

With its early and gentle takeoff, there is no need to pump the wing frantically: everything happens very naturally. The wing is predictable and does not create excessive lift. You don’t have to put all your weight on the front foot to stabilize yourself. It is really the perfect wing to discover the sensations of foiling.

Its very modern profile opens up a very wide range of use. It accepts flying at very low speed without stalling but also impressive speeds for this kind of shape.

The X-Over is very stable but not locked. Thanks to its twisted tips and its negative dihedral, it is really a playful but very predictable foil that switches from one rail to another very easily. It is really a foil that will accompany you for a very long time in your progression without ever restraining you.

In winging, the foil gets off your mind: no need to be ultra focused on your stance. It allows you to be more focused on the wing. For most beginners, it is a welcome comfort to be able to concentrate almost exclusively on the handling of the wing.

In surfing, the X-Over is very forgiving. When you’re still learning how to properly place the foil in the power zone of the wave to not be overwhelmed, you need a docile and predictable foil. These are exactly the qualities of the X-Over. Once you have this knowledge under your belt, its maneuverability allows you to make solid surf turns. This front wing really excels in soft waves and average conditions to the point that some experienced members of the GONG Team use it over other models for its maneuverability / lift ratio. It allows solid turns and pumps easily even with a small surface area.

Pumping the X-Over is ultra easy and very forgiving, making it a great wing for beginners in dock starts or for their first connected wave in surf foiling! The movement should be very vertical, and very “cool”; ideal for slowly developing a perfect pumping technique.

With an X-Over Stab, the wing will be very stable in pitch, it will be a great combo for learning to foil and have a very forgiving behavior. For riders of an intermediate level, we can also mount a Curve Stab, which has a shorter span, to have a more playful foil.

Shape

The shape of the X-Over is entirely designed around accessibility, versatility and evolution.

Every detail is thought out to make your flight easier, whatever your foil sport and to accompany you during your evolution.

Aspect ratio

The aspect ratio remains moderate even if it has been slightly increased compared to the previous version for a better glide.

A moderate aspect ratio offers a lot of efficiency at low speed. Ideal for taking off early, flying without having to go fast, crossing disturbed areas without stalling and tolerating pilot errors.
A moderate aspect ratio will also simplify the use of the foil. Its contained wingspan is globally more practical and safer too, be it on land or in the water, as you’re less likely to bump your feet on the foil.
Finally, this moderate aspect ratio will give more maneuverability. Useful when you have reached the next level but also interesting to quickly correct a piloting error when you’re not there yet. Limiting your falls is what it’s also about.

The outline

Its very curved outline on the leading edge projects the tips towards the back of the wing to bring a very natural feeling in turns. The foil engages effortlessly into a new curve. Ideal for getting into jibes!

The set-back tips also provide additional pitch stability: up and down “dolphin-like” movements of the board are lessened. It makes it easier to learn to fly and it allows you to tame the turns without feeling like you’re walking on eggshells.

This very curved outline brings a lot of the useful volume for the lift to the center of the wing. This boosts the maneuverability of a rather locked wing on paper. As a result, the tips are much thinner than the heart of the wing, which unlocks the foil in curves with a very easy rail to rail.

Thickness of the profile

The profile is generous all over the wing to maximize its lift and simplify take-off.

The X-Over’s ability to fly at low speeds is absolutely insane. You can cruise quietly over the body of water. You can make mistakes without suffering a sudden stall. Though it doesn’t fly as fast as a Veloce or a Ypra, it still has excellent acceleration capacity when you’re putting the hammer down!

Type of profile

The profile of the wing is ultra modern. Its volume has been moved back to combine lift and top speed.

The speed range is wide. It carries at low speed and slides very well to reach high speeds for this type of shape.

In surfing, this new profile provides a very progressive lift. You can take your time to get up, without getting out. Ideal for committing without restraint!

The camber

The camber is curved in the center and horizontal at the tips, which offers many advantages:

  • The rail to rail is very smooth and without surprise skidding.
  • You can tilt the foil in curves or when heading upwind without breaching because the tips remain far from the surface. We lower the risk of falling.
  • In a straight line, the camber “rests” on the water which guides the foil on a healthy trajectory. A beginner will feel less overwhelmed by this foil which won’t go in all directions.
  • The horizontal tips offer more surface contact with the bottom during hazardous starts. This avoids damaging the tips on the bottom. These are the most fragile parts of the foil, but unfortunately, when you start you will often hit the bottom, especially when surf foiling! This small detail will greatly extend the life expectancy of your foil.

Your benefits are clear:

  1. An efficient shape created by one of the leaders in the world of foiling.
  2. A design at the cutting edge of R&D and ahead of its time.
  3. A construction proven on thousands of foils.

Instructions

Innovation is at the core of our products

Our X-Over front wings are mostly made of fiberglass with a few layers of carbon fiber. The choice of fiberglass is motivated by the thickness of the shape of the X-Over. Such a shape is naturally more rigid than the one of a thinner front wing. You will not feel any flex on this wing. It is perfectly rigid.
The other advantage of fiberglass is that it is less afraid of shocks. We have a front wing that will withstand the rough treatment a beginner will put it through.

It is also reinforced on the interlocking part because it is a point of strong tension on these powerful wings.
Finally, the advantage of fiberglass is that it is less expensive. This means a more accessible foil and therefore less hesitation before starting this fabulous sport. And the performances are there, do not doubt it. We don’t make you pay for very expensive carbon by claiming that it makes a difference. We use the perfect material for your needs!

This technology has been tested and proven for more than three years without any breakage on 60,000 ALLVATOR foil wings. In the event of a violent impact on a rock, you can easily repair them and they will be as good as new.
You will never see a GONG wing open on a leading edge because our unique draping technique crosses the layers of fibres. So there is no parting line on our wings. The entire outline has overlapping gaps, just like the rails on your top of the range boards.
This foil is completely dismountable to adapt to all sports at a lower cost and give you the possibility of replacing a damaged part. A complete spare parts catalogue is available, to allow you to make it compatible with multiple supports (Surf / SUP / Kite / Wing), and to explore the entire range of use of the foil in each sport and at all levels.

Please note that GONG is at the forefront of foil development. We have been at the origin of the creation of the biggest foil factory that produces the major brands today. 18 months of intense work and dozens of tools developed. So don’t imagine that our foils are made in a gloomy garage. We develop all our products according to the rules of the art, with many internal engineers, with state-of-the-art 3D software, countless tests, with a Team at the highest level. That’s one of the reasons why we can offer low prices and refined products: we know what we’re doing from A to Z. We do not sell freelance designed foils. Our teams are at work year round and dedicated to the development of our products.

Wing tips are a potential source of danger. We take care not to produce an intrinsically dangerous design, within the limits of efficient hydrodynamics. Likewise, the trailing edges are designed not to be dangerously sharp. We invite you to be extremely careful despite these precautions because these parts remain sharp and dangerous by nature. Stay away, wear the proper protections, and never sharpen them. Systematically repair the slightest hitch in the outline because it represents a danger for you and others if it were to cut your leash for example. In all situations, the greatest caution is required. If in doubt, abstain (waves, strong wind, etc.).
Our R&D as well as our Quality Control guarantee you products of the highest quality. Firstly because our engineers based in South Brittany, France, are the first users. Their passion for our sports coupled with their qualifications have enabled us to create a unique research center in the world.

Our position as world leader in foiling is no coincidence. Our 3D simulations, our countless technical and technological prototyping, our state-of-the-art tools, our 100% GONG factory, our tests with the Pro Team which is among the most efficient, the thousands of feedback from our customers and our Ambassadors, and a ultra involved shaper designer: these are the key elements among many others that allow us to manufacture exceptional foils.
Several years ago, we were at the origin of the creation of the first foil factory in Asia, which today produces the “prestige” brands. 18 months of intense work and dozens of tools developed. Three years ago, we launched a new 100% GONG factory which allows us to produce more parts and keep our developments and technologies secret, to offer you the best of foils.

We want to offer low prices without ever cutting corners on quality, and refined products without ever diminishing performance in each program: we know what we are doing from A to Z. We do not sell foils designed by a freelancer, we do not do not sell marketing concepts. We do thorough, serious and innovative work to create efficient and solid foils at an unbeatable price.

Buying guide

For whom?

You saw a bunch of riders having a blast and you want to join the party? The X-Over is a perfect entry point to get into foiling and evolve, be it in wing, kite, surf or SUP foiling!

What For?

Discover the world of foiling, stabilize the flight, send your first maneuvers, but above all to have a versatile foil that works in all conditions and for all foiling disciplines!

In detail for each “sport”:

  • In wing foiling: The X-Over will make your life easier on takeoffs, teach you how to stabilize the flight, head upwind and help you nail your first jibes, tacks and jumps!
  • In surf foiling: The X-Over is perfect for a soft and progressive take-off, good turns on the wave and pump for your first connections with the next coming wave.
  • For dock starts: The X-Over will be perfect for making successful first starts and starting to cover nice distances on pure leg strength.
  • In kite foiling: The X-Over will be perfect for your first sessions, not having to be flying at a frightening Mach 12 speed, and for learning transitions in flight.

Which size?

The X-Over front wings can fit all rider sizes.

The M has a 75 cm wingspan and a surface area of 1000 cm2.

  • In wing foiling, it is a small wing for light riders.
  • In surf foiling, it is a small wing for light riders.
  • In kite foiling, it is a very versatile wing that lifts even at very low speed.

The L has a 85 cm wingspan and a surface area of 1300 cm2.

  • In wing foiling, it is an average wing for those under 75kg.
  • In surf foiling, it is an average wing for those under 75kg.

The XL has a 95 cm wingspan and a surface area of 1650 cm2.

  • In wing foiling, it is a large wing for people between 75 and 85 kg.
  • In surf foiling, it is a large wing for people between 75 and 85 kg.

The XXL has a 105 cm wingspan and a surface area of 2050 cm2.

  • In wing foiling, it is a great wing for people over 85kg and light wind.
  • In surf foiling, it is a great wing for people over 85kg and small waves.

General: a bigger front wing will be used in low ranges, in soft conditions. And conversely a smaller front wing in stronger conditions. What you need to remember is that the choice of your wing depends on your size, which requires lift, and your average speed, which generates lift.

Understand our foil range

Which stab?

We recommend using X-Over stabs with all X-Over front wings. Do not use stabs that have a smallish surface area.
This table allows you to easily identify which stab you should use for each front wing, or which stab for a quiver of several X-Over front wings.

Which Quiver?

With an X-Over, an aluminum mast is enough because the wingspan of these wings is compact. But it is obvious that with a carbon mast you will gain a lot of stiffness, especially on tight turns with large sizes like the XXL.

In surf foiling, you can use any board from our range, depending on your surfing level and your physical condition. The Lance will be perfect on your first sessions but it can be used very well with a shorter perf board.
Ditto in wing foiling, a beginner will appreciate a longer board to take off easily but we will try to reduce the length for maneuvers and to manage the chop.
For SUP foiling downwinders, it will work very well with a Flint or a Zuma which will allow you to have a very smooth takeoff on the wave.

Positioning of the foil ?

For the GONG foils, place the top plate at the rear third of the US rails for surf, SUP and kite. Place it in the middle of the US rails when using it with a wing foil.

The more you move it forward, the more it makes the board pitch up. The further you move it backwards, the more the nose of the board dives.

Be careful not to move it too far forward. We often tend to forget to use the back foot, especially when we have a kite foil background. However, moving the foil back a little forces you to put more weight on the back foot and gives a more harmonious attitude and reduces effort.

Shipping

Availability:

The dates of availability of all our products are written on each product page, in the size and colour of the product concerned.

These dates are valid at the moment you consult the site and/or place an order. It is possible that this product may be ordered a few seconds after your consultation. It then becomes unavailable. If you have placed an order, this change does not concern you: the product you order is still available on the date indicated at the time of your order.

We sell several thousand products per week. The stocks are therefore very evolutionary. But our management always shows you the real availability live.

If it’s available online: it’s available ?

Pre-order:

Some articles are proposed in pre-order during their routing to our premises. You can buy this article which will arrive at our place in a few weeks. This method avoids the fair to grab upon receipt of the lot and the disappointed ones who would not order within the hour.

Upon receipt, we will ship it to you as a regular order.

The times indicated on the pre-orders are 95% reliable. First of all, because we only pre-sell finished products that are arriving to us after Customs, and therefore shipped right after. And also, because we add decent margins with concern to the dates announced by the shipping companies or railways.

However, a Worker Strike, a breakdown, an overbooking, can unfortunately happen. In the case of a delay, you will be notified by email (check your spam). It is generally less than a week and totally independent of our good will.

As soon as we receive the container in La Baule, we ship your order within three working days. Then the carrier takes over: delivery time and tracking numbers are under their responsibility.

It is possible that the date displayed on the online for the pre-order of the item you have ordered and paid for may change for two reasons:

  1. All quantities of the batch are sold (most common reason). In this case, orders placed for the first container will be delivered as scheduled.
  2. The container is late and we have to shift the date by a few days. (Strikes, breakdowns, overbooking, can unfortunately happen). You will be notified by email.

We never change the delivery dates of a container without notifying customers.

Delays:

The dates that we announce are shipping deadlines, which GONG has in stock and available here physically.

We usually give a shipping time within 3 days, but in most cases, we ship within 24/48 hours. Normally morning orders leave in the afternoon for example.

Then the transport service takes over. The variables are then important between the customer being delivered to France (very fast) or Bulgaria (a good week) or to a forwarding agent or to Asia or the USA… You understand that each location has its own type of delay.

We work with serious and well-known carriers. They do their utmost to make you happy even if a snafu can happen. In any case, we are there to make things easier and to arrange our customers.

Shipping Fees:

Contrary to others, we do not hide shipping costs in the price of our products. At GONG everyone knows exactly what he pays. The transport is charged at its strictest value, and the person who comes to pick up his products does not pay hidden transport fees.

Shipping costs are calculated according to the weight and volume of each package, and your delivery address. To this is added a labour time of order preparation.

The invoicing of the shipping costs is identical in continental France and in the bordering European countries. A surcharge is automatically invoiced for deliveries to the most distant European countries and all European islands.

For a shipment in French overseas departments and territories or outside Europe, our logistics department will contact you before the payment stage to give you an estimate of the shipping costs. You will be able to accept this estimate and pay your order, or refuse it and cancel your order.

Any questions:

We answer you within 24 hours by email. But 95% of your questions are answered on the site. Try to use our contact form which will guide you to all these answers.

Don’t forget to read the Forum, where thousands of users exchange information and experiences.

In any case, don’t panic. If you don’t get an answer during the weekend, it’s normal: the team is resting ?

We are passionate and professional in our job. Our only goal is to make you happy, as much as possible ?

Eco-responsible packaging:

Preserving the environment is a top priority. That’s why we are doing everything possible to reduce our environmental footprint.

The first thing is to sell quality products that will last, be repairable and will please you for a long time.

The second thing is to sell for less. Most of the pollution coming from a Board is in its use (the km driven to use it) and in the countless environmental damages you have to do to pay for it. Each euro spent is a sum of damage related to your life quite simply: eating, working hard etc… By reducing the price of our products, we significantly reduce your ecological footprint on this item.

For our shipments we use:

  • Flexi-Hex: ecological packaging of very high resistance.
  • Paper Craft Scotch Tape.
  • Final packaging made of high-end cardboard.

All this for:

  • Reusable and recyclable packaging.
  • An almost total reduction of single-use plastic.
  • Maximum protection and impact resistance thanks to the innovative design of Flexi-Hex honeycomb (35mm thick).

Tracking of your parcels :

The tracking of deliveries is directly ensured by the carriers to whom we have entrusted your parcels. They will contact you by email or SMS to allow you to choose the delivery methods and to follow the route of your package.

If you ask us for this tracking, we will have to do as you do: we will go see on the carrier’s app because they are the ones who manage and are responsible for this job.

Delivery:

We collaborate with the best transport providers to deliver you everywhere in Europe and in the world in very short delays.

We have chosen them for their quality of service and their respect of deadlines. 80% of your orders reach their destination in less than 48 hours of processing in metropolitan and continental France.

For Europe, the delays vary from 3 to 6 days depending on the country of destination.

For the rest of the world, delays can be up to 15 days.

Please note that the transport time is added to the preparation/shipping time. Two companies work on your order (GONG and the carrier). Each one controls its activity and commits itself to optimize its delays so that you are delivered as soon as possible, in good condition and at a reasonable price.

Reception of your front wing:

Upon delivery, simply open and inspect the condition of your Board in the presence of the carrier. A complete email explaining the procedure to follow will be sent to you when your order is shipped.

In spite of our requirements and all the care we take in packaging and protecting your Board, transportation hazards may occur. Even if it concerns less than 2% of everything we ship around the world, a Board can suffer a more or less important transportation shock.

But in any case, don’t worry, just refuse it, and a new Board will be shipped back to you.

Returns:

You can choose to return your products if:

  • You are not satisfied (14 days right of retraction).
  • You want to change an item.
  • You have refused your package.

For each situation, contact us by our contact form to help you.

Warning:

The practice of the Foil carries risks of major accidents. A bad mastery of the Foil can cause cuts, serious wounds, even death, for you and/or others.

The Foil must be practiced taking all the precautions when used in Kite because they are increased in comparison to those related to the Foilsurf. Remember that the Foil is long, sharp, and can reach high speeds. To be hit by a Foil, or to strike a third party can have dramatic consequences.

Foil always far from others, in safe and unobstructed water.

The Foil is mainly used in the light wind. This one can fall and force you to go swimming. Therefore, do not overestimate your strengths: never go further than what you can swim under present and announced conditions.

Wear a helmet and protective jacket to ensure your buoyancy. Always wear a full neoprene wetsuit.

When handling the foil, be careful not to cut yourself on the trailing edges.

GONG declines all responsibility in the event of an accident involving a GONG Foil. The Foil practice and its benefits/consequences is under the sole responsibility of the Foil user.

DISPUTES AND LIABILITY

GONG-GALAXY cannot be held liable for non-performance of the contract formed, on the one hand due to a force majeure event, as defined by the courts, and on the other hand, in the event of wrongdoing by the client or an unforeseeable and insurmountable act by a third party to the contract. GONG-GALAXY cannot be held liable for consequences resulting from the incorrect use of products sold on the Website.

Although our products have performances that are compatible with professional use, GONG-GALAXY does not intend to sell the professionals.

The danger in sports practised depends in large part in respecting fundamental rules for safety, priorities, and local regulations that are required for spots.

Each user of GONG-GALAXY products is responsible for making sure that he is at least covered by civil liability insurance, if necessary, by purchasing a sports license.

The rules for maintenance, use, and safety are found in the instructions for use delivered with each product. The instructions may also be downloaded by clicking on the following link or from the GONG-GALAXY.COM website. The instructions form an integral part of the scope of this contract, for which it constitutes an exhibit in and of itself. You acknowledge that you have carefully examined it.

Special statement regarding “foils” products

The practice of foils, in every medium, presents a special hazard. Notwithstanding the contents of the instructions for use of each product, it is imperative that a few simple rules be observed:

  • Wear a safety vest and a helmet. Foils contain areas of impact that are indispensable for their proper operation, but which present a real danger in the event of a shock. You are most exposed to this risk as a practitioner on the device. You must therefore protect yourself, consequently, using adequate equipment that meets standards. And you must protect yourself by never placing yourself in an at-risk situation. Your behaviour determines the risk you take.
  • Except for kite surf boards, equip your board, at all times, with a leash that is at least equal to the length of the board, as well as foot straps. These elements make it possible not to completely release the board in the direction of other users. Never move in a distance that is less than the length of your leash plus that of the board plus your centreboard should you fall amongst other practitioners. You must never bring a third party into this diameter which forms the area in which your activity presents risk.
  • Only practice in spots that are conducive for the activity (secure water entry, lack of shore break, regular bottom, orientation adapted the wind direction, etc.) and not frequented by practitioners of other nautical sports. A foil’s speeds require that the solo practitioner or one amongst multiple foil practitioners move in an environment where each person anticipates and has awareness of the others’ trajectories.
  • Scrupulously follow the rules of priority, especially since inertia and manoeuvrability are different from traditional media, above all for beginners. Courtesy and the sense of responsibility must be part of your practice so as not to create deviant behaviour that might lead to an accident.
  • Pay attention to the other practitioners, and generally speaking, to all users of the water body, even if they do not have priority in your area of movement (they may, among other things, underestimate your speed and your danger zone). Never practice around children or people who are unfamiliar with the sport, as their reactions might be completely unpredictable. You would be fully liable. GONG SUP will do everything in its power to alert you to the risks and explain to you the practical framework that we recommend. You cannot ignore these instructions as this would endanger you and everyone else, and jeopardize the GONG SUP brand which is a responsible company.
  • Pay attention to the water depth, since the presence of an appendage with several tens of centimetres below a beach vehicle is a new data point for a good number of practitioners, even those familiar with watersports. Breakage associated with pressure against or striking the bottom is not covered by the warranty.
  • Maintain and check your equipment regularly, and make no technical modification to it other than products and solutions sold by GONG-GALAXY. Never sharpen the trailing edges, as they would become cutting both for you and for the leash, thereby no longer holding onto the board!

It is highly recommended that you begin foil practice in an appropriate pedagogical setting, by means of an accredited club or school, that you read all of her articles on the GONG forum. This is to allow you to acquire an appropriate level of self-sufficiency and a real knowledge of the stakes in the practice of foil.
