Emergency braking

It is normal to ask yourself how to brake with a wing foil. Ejecting from the board is one solution but it may not always be the right one. So how do you do it? We will show you here in this How To.

Let’s imagine you are sailing quietly when suddenly you find yourself with a boat 10 meters in front of you. At that moment, don’t hesitate. Stall on purpose and then slide on the foil. To do this, you simply raise the foil just below the surface of the water. Then you will shift your weight to the back and keep it there until you stop. Shifting your weight backwards will cause you to stall and slide with the water on the underside of your foil wings. You will slide for 2 or 3 meters. As soon as you have lost all your speed, the foil will gently sink into the water. All you have to do is avoid what’s in front of you and get going again. This braking technique is very effective if you want to stop gently but quickly.

Now you know how to stop like a pro !     Malo Guénolé
