Flat toeside rad 360

The Flat Toeside 360 Rad is the first step in one of the most impressive and technical wing moves. This trick will allow you to learn how to manage this particular rotation of your body and the wing. In order to pull off this move, you should already be at an advanced level. Nevertheless, the Rad 360 is a very fun and sensational manoeuvre. Now let’s look at how we perform this trick.

To start with
You will need to get into the Toeside position. If you have a rear strap, I suggest you use it, you will have more control. Once you’re in position, make sure you’re sailing crosswind wind. If you’re bearing off, you will not have enough power in the wing to make the rotation. On the other hand, if you are too close to the wind, you will struggle to turn. Another tip is not to go too fast, otherwise you will be completely ripped off by the wing and the foil will stall.
The wing
Now that you are riding crosswind and without too much speed, you will be able to pull the trick. You will have to bring your front hand windward of your head while pushing in your back hand. The wing should be passing over you like an umbrella. If you open the wing up too much, you will automatically have it ripped out of your hands. Stay sheeted in, with the wing flat above you. You will find that the power is so great that you will not be able to fight to the point of losing balance. However, if you don’t open it up enough, you will go backwind and you’ll fall backwards.
Finish the movement
You now have the wing in an umbrella position over your head with the leading edge behind you and the trailing edge in front of you. Your upper body, which was twisted at the start of the move, toeside wing in the back, is now untwisted, wing towards the tail. You will have to lower your front hand while bringing it back behind you. During this time, you continue to push the back hand. This is when the rotation of the board and the body will start. Be ready because the 360 will happen very quickly. You probably won’t even have time to figure out what’s going on. But be very focused on staying straight. If you are off balance, the balance will be very hard to manage. As you rotate, remember to lift the wing with your front hand, otherwise the leading edge will hit the water and stop your rotation.
Last tip, try to fly low on your foil to avoid stalling. After that you just have to pump your wing and foil to regain speed. For this trick, it is better to have a foil with a lot of lift. This will help you to land it and get away easily at lower speed.
Now you know how to do a Flat Toeside 360 Rad. All you have to do now is get in the water and get ready for some belly flops!
