Why use a boardbag?
The board cover is an essential accessory when traveling with your Surf foil board in search of new spots. The various constructions of boards available on the market are fragile and prone to damage. The travel covers we offer are of high quality; they protect your board and help keep it scratch- and damage-free for a long time.
Properly protecting your board during transport—whether by bike, car, or plane on a trip—is crucial because most damage occurs out of the water.
There are many solutions depending on your needs and budget. Always choose a cover based on your board’s length and shape. You should choose a cover that matches or is slightly longer than your board.
While the primary purpose of a cover is to protect your board from impacts and sun exposure, it also makes handling easier. You’ll find it much simpler to carry by hand, over the shoulder, or to load onto your car’s roof bars.
We at GONG offer covers that fit all board types—shortboards, mid-lengths, or longboards. We provide closely sizing options to fit not only GONG boards but also boards from other brands.
If you’re unsure, each cover’s product page lists internal dimensions, so you can easily compare them with your board’s measurements.
How to Choose the Right Surf foil boardbag?
Choosing the best cover for your board depends on several criteria:
- Construction and padding: thicker padding for serious trips with higher risk.
- Outline compatibility: pick a cover whose outline matches your board’s shape.
- Size: choose a cover equal to or slightly larger than your board.
For better protection during travel, it’s safer to choose a cover that's slightly larger than too small. This allows room to add extra padding or accessories at the board's ends for additional protection.
For example, you can wrap a wetsuit or even a poncho around the nose and tail—areas that are highly exposed to impacts.
On the other hand, an overly large cover may fail to protect properly. The board shouldn’t move inside; the nose and tail need to stay aligned with the reinforcements.

How to Maintain Your Boardbag
Sand, salt, and moisture clog and corrode zippers—the main cause of boardbag failure.
To extend your cover’s lifespan, we recommend rinsing the zipper regularly with fresh water, even if it's salt-resistant. The same care should be given to wetsuit zippers.
You can also use Zip Care on your zippers. This maintenance product is perfect for plastic and metal zippers. Its unique brush applicator allows you to apply the product between the zipper teeth and physically remove dirt, salt residue, and dust.
A must-have to stay watertight in all conditions!
