TEAM NEWS: PIERRE GIRARDEAU CROWNED FRENCH WAVE SUP CHAMPION!
Our ambassador from Vendée, Pierre Girardeau, recently participated in the French Stand Up Paddle Wave Championships in Hossegor. A quick trip that allowed him to secure second place in challenging conditions. He shares his experience of the competition with us.
Spot: Hossegor, Gardians spot
Conditions: Incredible—super clean, powerful, tubular waves.
Gear: GONG Alley FSP Pro 7'4 and Carbon Pro 8'' paddle.
"The French Championships at the last minute. The evening before, I still wasn’t sure if I’d be able to participate because of work...
I managed to reschedule my appointments with patients, left around 6:30 p.m., and arrived in Hossegor around 1:30 a.m. After a short night’s sleep, I headed straight to the spot.
In the first round, the pressure was high. The waves were pretty big, and I didn’t know this spot well. I was up against Antonin Salaverria, who took second place from me in last year’s final, but this time I finished first and moved on to round two.
In round two, I chose a risky but rewarding strategy, heading to surf the offshore waves. I scored a solid first wave with a big turn, earning 6.43 points. I finished second in the series behind Gabriel Bachelet, who eventually placed third in the final.
The semi-final was intense, facing Benoit Carpentier, a multiple-time French and world champion. I qualified for the final with two beautiful lefts.
Right after the semi-final, I went straight into the final—a memorable event with incredible conditions. I opened the series, scoring 6 points on my first wave just seconds in with a powerful turn, taking the lead. Ten minutes in, I scored a second wave at 4.67 points.
The last 5 minutes were quite stressful with few waves to choose from. I held priority over the other competitors, waiting at the peak for a good wave that never came.
I finished vice champion of France in the competition, and I'm very happy with this result.
A quick awards ceremony, and I was back on the road by 2 a.m. to start work again at 8 a.m. the next day.“
Huge congratulations to Pierre for this well-deserved title.
