TEAM NEWS: GONG TEAM AT THE FOREFRONT IN CAGLIARI

Julien Rattotti kicks off the Wingfoil Racing Tour in Sardinia with a victory in the long-distance race!

Competition resumed yesterday in Italy for all the racers of the Wingfoil Racing Tour.

It was a very intense first day, with the usual “Marathon” heats putting riders' physical endurance and concentration to the test, in races lasting almost 30 minutes at speeds exceeding 30 knots.

These races, almost 10 km long, were almost five times longer than the races that the riders will be tackling today and tomorrow. These were crucial races for the competitors, as the rankings from these races determined the positions for the rest of the competition.

The GONG team took first and second place in the first race

A fleet of 82 riders took to the starting line, both men and women. Julien Rattotti won the first race, despite a poor start that put him behind the leading group before the first mark. At the halfway point of the third section, several riders made a mistake, accidentally rounding a non-racing mark, on their way to the finish line. A lapse in concentration that allowed Julien to cross the line in first place, just ahead of team-mate Francesco Cappuzzo.

A superb start to the event for the team, which Julien confirmed in the following race, also over long distances, with a third-place finish that once again demonstrated his speed and put him at the top of the provisional event ranking, ex æquo with championship leader Mathis Ghio.

Charlie neck and neck with the top 3

Charlotte Baruzzi, GONG team rider, showcased high speed on her race gear, positioning herself for a spot in the top 3 until the final stretch of the first heat. Ultimately finishing in 4th place, she is right in the slipstream of the Tour leaders, and we can count on her to give it her all in the heats to come today and throughout the weekend for the final rounds.
