QUESTION : point nose or round nose ?
This question has been asked to Patrice Guénolé, GONG shaper :
“Usually, people think that a point nose is dedicated to high performance surf. It might be true, but on a SUP things are a bit different.
Regarding the volume, please remember that a up to 10′ board is a huge board. So the volume is here. Point nose or round nose, that kind of boards are very easy to paddle and take off.
The thing is how a point nose can be helpful for beginners and intermediates? It is easy to understand. A point nose is way much efficient to avoid nose dives, may much easy to manage in the white water, and makes you confident in all surf departments.
Point nose are definitely beginners adapted.
If you think about round nose boards, they are many more hard to performe than point nose boards. Running a noseride or a 360° Helicopter needs specific skills that a beginner will discover after turns. So a point nose board could be a great choice for a beginner to.
Choosing a round nose or a point nose board is more a question of feeling than performances and level.”
