The final event of the Wing Foil Racing World Cup got underway in Jericoacoara, Brazil, with solid performances of our Team Riders !
After much anticipation, the final event of the Wingfoil Racing Tour kicked off in Jericoacoara, Brazil, yesterday with 47 registered athletes, including 2 GONG Team Riders: Bastien Escofet and Julien Rattotti. Day one featured wind speeds averaging 25 knots with gusts up to 30, resulting in thrilling racing marked by high speeds and notable crashes across the race course.

Long distance courses
The initial races of the event were long-distance races, bringing together the entire men’s and women’s fleets with all 47 athletes competing on the same course. Team GONG made a stellar start, with Rattotti claiming 1st place in the first race, completing it in around 20 minutes while using the Pulse UPE DP wing. Escofet, although near the front, finished 4th due to a minor crash but showcased impressive speed throughout the race.
It’s noteworthy that GONG Team riders exclusively use a full quiver of GONG equipment, without any exceptions. In contrast to other top athletes equipped with custom foils and non-production gear, GONG athletes rely on readily available equipment, accessible or soon to be at GONG-GALAXY.COM.
In the second race, GONG Team continued to demonstrate the outstanding performance of their gear. Despite catching some seaweed and falling off the foil midway through the race, Escofet secured the win. Opting for a 4.5 Droid in the second race due to being overpowered on his smallest Pulse DP 5.0 wing, Escofet’s strategic prowess allowed him to clinch victory. Rattotti finished a respectable 6th in the second long-distance race, contending closely with the fleet until a crash, prompted by excessive seaweed, led to a slight drop in positions.
Strong from start to finish on day one
Following the full fleet long-distance races, athletes were divided into 3 separate qualifying fleets for 2 additional races in the men’s division and 1 qualifying fleet for the women’s division. The course was changed to a shorter, more technical layout with races averaging around 5-8 minutes in length, creating a new challenge for the riders. Escofet and Rattotti, placed in different fleets, both finished their first qualifying race in 3rd position, then elevated their performance in the second qualifying race—the fourth and final race of the day—where both emerged victorious in their respective heats.
As day one concluded, Bastien Escofet leads the leaderboard, with Julian Rattotti in 3rd, just behind his Wingfoil Racing Tour rival Mathias Ghio, who currently holds 2nd position. With only 1 point separating 1st to 3rd place, anticipation is rising, and the upcoming days promise exciting action.
