The SUP world championship ended in the Canary Islands with a 5th and 7th place finish in the ShortSUP category for our team riders.
Reaching the semifinals after strong performances, our team riders had their work cut out for them to make it to the final as they were facing, not only each other, but also two talented and multi-titled competitors. The stage was set for a tight heat where no mistakes would be allowed. Moritz tells us about this tense heat for a spot in the final.

“Today we had finals days, the conditions turned on, I arrived at the beach at sunrise to see peeling right-handers with overhead sets. On paper my heat promised to be a tough one with Leco, Taka and Benoit and that’s exactly how it went down. I had to bring my A-game to beat those guys but unfortunately I made too many mistakes. I fell on the best waves of the heat as I wanted to be radical and perform a good heat. Leco also had a few good ones but could not finish them as he would crash along the way. Sometimes you can’t put it all together. At this level you pay the price. So unfortunately both of us didn’t advance and placed in 5th Leco and 7th myself. All in all I was a bit disappointed throughout the whole event as I couldn’t really perform and surf to my best capabilities. When I managed to get some good sets I didn’t want to crash and was missing some confidence in myself, so let’s keep training for the next events!”
Despite a disappointing result during this semi-final, our team riders demonstrated that they were to be reckoned with at the highest level. Particularly in LongSUP where Moritz ranks 5th and Leco vice-World Champion with their standard NFA FSP Pro boards.
