The GONG team scores yet another podium finish in Fuerteventura thanks to the performance of Bastien Escofet in Freefly-Slalom, following the result in Surf-Freestyle of Malo only a few days ago!
The event started with a bang with next level action throughout the weekend in the Surf-Freestyle division before giving way to the best Freefly-Slalom riders in the world for yet another display of remarkable performances and thrilling heats.
The action-packed last few weeks in the Canary Islands continued at a marathonian pace for the competitors of the world tour in the Freefly-Slalom category with 15 elimination rounds for the women and 9 elimination rounds for men. Each round of elimination being composed for the men, of a quarter, a semi and ultimately a final which counted for the final score. So the goal of the game was to qualify for the final and finish with a clutch performance.
A game in which Bastien distinguished himself by qualifying for all the finals except one, coming in with first, second and third places in most of his qualifying rounds. His great starts, his speed and his consistency in the final heats of the elimination rounds earned him a third place overall behind his rivals for the title, Titouan Galea and Francesco Cappuzzo. In ambush, Julien Rattotti finished 6th in the event with several demonstrations of his art of racing, namely a superb victory in the final of the fourth round, topping the leaders of the championship.
Congratulations to the whole team who showed great consistency over the marathon that this event represented. Like Sofia, Max and Clément who were on top of their game in the Freefly-Slalom heats, coming home with solid results and legit ambitions for the next events.
On the leaderboard, Bastien (who rides 100% with GONG gear, including our standard foils) is now set for a battle that should go down to the wire as he is only a couple of points off his two rivals for the title. The next explanation between these title contenders will take place in early September in Denmark. A must-see event!
