INTERVIEW : PAUL LOUSTAU !!!

At the tender age of 15, Paul is already an accomplished young Waterman. Surfer since a young age, he has been practicing SurFoil for 1 year and shares with us his passion for this discipline.
Can you please introduce yourself?
My name is Paul Loustau Lasplaces, I am 15 years old, I live in Biarritz at the top of the Cote des Basques (my home spot)! I’m an ocean lover, I love surfing, longboarding, SUP and I’m addicted to Foil.At what age did you start surfing ?
I got my first board when I was 1, and I’ve been surfing since I was 5 years old.
Do you prefer Shortboard or Longboard ?
Complicated question but I would tend to say shortboard. Even if I’m always surprised to feel good sensations when I go longboarding 😉Do you prefer Competition or Free surfing ?
Rather free surfing! But I’ve done a lot of longboard competitions and I’d like to do some in Foil, just to measure myself against my friends!
When and where did you discover SurFoil ?
I discovered Foil on Instagram by watching Kai Lenny’s videos that fascinated me! Then I had the chance to go to Hawaii last year. My parents offered me a Foil course, fortunately I managed to get up quickly !!! And since then I’m addicted…What did you like about the sport right away?
What I liked right away was the feeling of flying over water. It’s such a unique feeling. I still remember the first time I managed to pump to the bottom and catch another wave. What SurFoil equipment do you currently use?
I use the new Lethal FSP PRO 4’4 SurFoil Board. I love it with the Front Wing M or L PRO depending on the size of the waves and a 80 cm mast, best combo ;).
What did you like in the GONG Foil ?
I think what I liked the most about the GONG Foil is its versatility. My first Foil was a GONG. I was advised to use it for the first time because it was strong, less sharp and really cheap compared to other Foils. I have never changed it and it accompanied me throughout my progression.Today, the SurFoil has taken over the surfing?
Yes completely! But hey, I admit that when there is 1,50 m off shore with sick barrels I take my shortboard !!! But when I’m in the water surfing, I look anyway if there is no way to do a session in Foil 😉Why did you want to become a GONG ambassador ?
I wanted to become a GONG Ambassador from the moment Foil became a passion.
I wanted to get involved and contribute to the development of this brand, whose commercial strategy I appreciate, which is different from other brands. I also appreciate the spirit of the GONG brand, the fact of selling cheaper so that everyone can have access to the material.
