HOW TO: TACK

Nail all your tacks with our How To Tack which guides you step by step throughout the maneuver!

If, like Nicolas, you always stumble on the same phase of your tack, do not hesitate to ask for advice to the GONG community on our Facebook GONG Galaxy group! A demand answered among others by a very active member of the group, L’Ours, boss and shaper GONG, with a piece of advice that has unlocked this essential maneuver for many foilers.

The solution to unlock this maneuver often lies in your back hand, regularly forgotten in the middle of the maneuver, which helps you reposition the wing when crossing path with the wind.

“It’s all about the rear hand. You obviously have to throw the front hand into the wind just before passing the axis of the wind, but we often forget to push at the same time in the rear hand in the direction of the initial trajectory to make the Wing pivot in the right position for your new direction. Everyone I see failing their tacks makes this mistake. If you do not push in your rear hand before changing tack, you will have to orient the wing correctly just after passing the axis of the wind and taking your wing back in both hands, which generally translates to a sketchy situation… Obviously if you tack at lightning speed or on a wave, the problem won’t occur as much 😉 “
