HOW TO : ROLLER !!!

Simple turn at the top of the wave, a Roller is not something innate to SUP. Indeed, the size of the Board requires that it is handled with power. For this you really have to use your Paddle. For all turns on the wave, it is simply necessary to use the techniques for turning on the flat with the Paddle. Now that you master all the turns on the flat, you just need to put them into practice on the face of the wave. For this, it is necessary to pace the catch of edge and the actions of the Paddle. After a well-placed front side Bottom turn and with pressure on the toes and on the Paddle in front of you, you continue the curve of the bottom by extending and projecting it towards the top of the wave, where you want to turn. Just before you reach the top of the wave, you put the board back flat and pull the Paddle out of the water by sending it forward. You plunge the Paddle well in front of the Board at the top of the curve that you want to perform to make your Roller and you engage the edge with the heels. You pull as hard as you can on the Paddle as on a very big stroke while carving a maximum towards the slope. The action of pulling the Paddle combined with that of the surf Roller will rotate the Board on the spot. You may be surprised by the power of the curves because the effect that the Paddle produces is incredible. It increases the pivot and multiplies the rotation of the Board. Note that this turn up wave is strictly the same as using the flat of your blade in a front side turn on the flat. Roller front side : SUPer : Moritz Mauch on 6’10 Karmen FSP.
