HOW TO : choose your board part 4 !!!

How to choose your board ? – The Thickness : The maximum thickness is important. A Board that’s less than 4” thick is a very thin Board.
Even more important is the repartitioning of this thickness. A highly domed Board (the deck in dome form) will often be very agile but very instable. Inversely, a Board with a flat deck will be super stable but very driven and will need a heavy footed approach with your stance.
To get a better idea, know that a flat Board that’s one inch thinner than a domed Board, in general, is just as stable.
Make note that the repartitioning of the thickness within the width is very important but so is the repartitioning within the length crucial.
In effect, a Board that has little volume at the tail is often agile and controlable. To much, and it will also be a Board that’s very sensitive to water movements and int he phases of waiting and being stopped. An excessive imbalance of the volume reparation will a vector of parasitic behaviour and the Board will show itself to be abrupt and bad.
The current, always present at the peak but rarely discernible when surfing, will come up and get the back of the SUP, if it’s submerged, and unbalance the rider. Attention, a tail that’s to thick makes a Board easy and less sensitive but also imposible to turn. Advisor : Patrice Guénolé et GONG Surfboards. Source : GONG SUP Staff, we share that we know.
