GEAR: WHICH WING FOIL MAST ?

Our foil masts are available in 5 sizes (55, 65, 75, 85 and 95 cm) in the aluminium technology and 3 sizes (70, 85 and 100 cm) in the carbon monobloc technology. Our complete foils are composed of the mast of the optimal length for their program. If you want to set up a foil with the spare parts of your choice, here are some tips for the length of the wing foil mast.

 

Apart from launching in shallow waters and your first hazardous flights, you have everything to gain using a long mast (over 80cm). More length = more margin = easier = more efficient. Unlike kite foil, in wing there’s little opposition to the wing because it doesn’t pull as hard. So you put relatively little angle on the mast to counter the pull. Thus mastering a large wing mast isn’t an issue. And since the boards used are much bigger than for kite foil, the inertia is greater. As a result your foil is less crazy. Everything is calmer. So don’t be afraid of a long mast, it will only make your life easier. In choppy water, in transitions, in challenging winds, a large mast will be ten times more pleasant. Of course the must is the carbon Monobloc in 85cm or 100cm. Absolutely magical. But the Alu 80cm and the 90cm are also amazing.

• For beginners: Alu 65cm at the start then 80cm.
• For the experienced: Alu 80cm or 90cm, and Monobloc 85cm or 100cm in carbon as soon as possible.
• For the Pros: 85cm carbon monobloc for freestyle and surfing; and 100cm to race or do DW for example.
