GEAR: USE OF A LEASH ON A LOWKITE?

What happens when you crash without any leash in Lowkite and lose your gear?

As illustrated by Patrice in his post on the GONG Galaxy group, a leash isn’t a must-have on a lowkite unless you’re riding in super strong winds or in waves. Contrary to a board leash that we recommend using in classic downwind conditions :

“No drama! In moderate wind, your gear stays surprisingly close. Just swim to your board (don’t wait…), grab it (paddle on it if needed) and go back to your lowkite. Relaunch is super easy, and you’re back cruising upwind in seconds!

However, remember:

  • In strong winds, a board leash can help prevent your board from drifting far.
  • In waves, NO leash is safer, so you can release your Lowkite instantly and avoid getting tangled.
  • Never ride alone and never take risks you can’t manage ⚠️

Play safe, ride free! 👍”
