GEAR: CHOOSE A NEUTRA OR NEUTRA LIGHT LOWKITE?

Two constructions, two bridle systems, two different uses.

The Neutra and Neutra Light share the same outline, but the latter stands out with lighter SKYTEX fabric, fewer bridle lines, less leading-edge overlap and a more minimalist infill panel architecture.

As a result, on one side you have the Neutra, ultra-stable and precise both when stationary and riding upwind, and on the other the Neutra Light, extremely light and compact when packed.

Optimizing each use:

  • Upwind / downwind, wave riding and freeride with the Neutra. Comfort at the top end of its wind range and durability in the waves.
  • Downwind first with the Neutra Light, as it is easier to pack, with the option of carrying a second lowkite more easily as a backup. And still incredibly efficient for riding back upwind.

What does experience tell us?

An early adopter, our team rider Mathieu Fouliard, based in Tahiti, rediscovered foiling and his local spots from a whole new perspective after getting into lowkite. A new way to glide with total freedom, combined with easier water access that opens up new possibilities.

He now spends a large part of his sessions with a lowkite bar either in his hands or packed into his Neutra stash bag. Here, he breaks down when to choose a Neutra or a Neutra Light:

“That’s a question you ask me a lot.

You can ride upwind with both the Neutra and the Neutra Light, but the standard Neutra will allow you to point higher.

It all depends on how you ride.

If around 80% of your sessions are downwinders and 20% are regular riding, the Neutra Light will probably be the better choice. Its specific lightweight fabric was designed for pure downwind sessions: it packs quickly and easily into a very compact bag, making it much more convenient to carry when every gram and every centimeter counts.

On the other hand, if you mainly use your lowkite for regular riding and rarely, if ever, do long downwinders, the standard Neutra will probably be more suitable.

The Neutra Light isn’t simply a lighter version of the Neutra. It was genuinely designed around the specific requirements of downwind riding, and the difference becomes particularly obvious when it’s time to pack it away.

This video speaks for itself: you can see me packing both kites and immediately see how much quicker and easier the Neutra Light is to pack into its bag.

Ultimately, your choice mainly comes down to the balance between downwind and regular riding in your sessions.”
