FORUM : board's shapes for Pacific ocean !!!

Few words from l’Ours:
“It seems about time, and necessary, to open up about this incredible Trip we just made. Not to rub it in anyones face but in order to talk about it on a technical level.
It has been quite a spell since I haven’t been back to Surf the Pacific. We had a minimum of 16 sec. periods, and up to 22 sec. with 6′ to 8′. Which in theory is me and a half, and sometimes a bit more because on many of the shots taken form the shore I can’t even be seen, hahaha. This means to say that we had series of 20, 30 and 40 powerful waves for a quarter of an hour then nothing.
In conclusion, I’m fully persuaded that we have the equipment that is perfect for Europe. Our swells are incredibly different, including in the South and/or in Portugal in which I have Surfed extensively.
But for the Pacific, I was only on my game when riding the SP, and with giant Fins set-ups. The essential problem comes from the speed and the hold at high speeds. 90% of the waves were to fast for even the good Shortboard riders. While on SUP……. you’re guaranteed to get whipped. On the other hand I was often alone on my SUP among a dozen surfers.
So it is important to know that when you buy from GONG, that you’re investing in SUP equipment that is dedicated to our specific swells, and in rhythmic tandem with them.
We often have debates on sizes and advice by FCS and we have the tendency to undersize. The answer is in the Pacific. We knew this, but sometimes it’s good to be reminded with 80 duck dives an hour and only Surf 3 waves…hahahaha.”
