The best way to progress is : 1/ Always surf with the same Board.
In this case you will be putting it all on knowing your Board, at a level that is very close to reflex. Everything will be instinctive and you will be able to exploit it the best and in a maximum of conditions.
Limits : when you surf conditions that are completely different, it is very complicated to choose a Board that covers your needs completely. 2/ Surf Board that are totally different so you can adapt to the conditions.
In this case you’re putting it all on trying to optimise the conditions. You will catch more waves, surf more often & have more fun in marginal conditions than with a no choice Quiver.
Limits : changing your Board all the time means having to re-learn the board. The secret of success depends on your objectives. If you want to be a Shortboarder, riding Longboards is useless, and might even screw with your stance. We need to look at reality because if you live in a region with a standard non changing wave, no problem to have one Board. But if the waves are costly in flux and change one day to another….. you might find yourself stuck. Another parameter is your desire because if you’re extremely motivated, you will be able to put all your energy into use one Board and push it into some marginal conditions. But if you’re to cool about it, having to fight with your Board becomes pretty lame pretty quick, especially when you know the comfort of a Quiver. In conclusion, falling becoming a compulsive Board consumer, you will naturally feel when you need a new Board. Maybe your friends will tell you, or even a video, or that you tell yourself you’re tired of being miserable in certain conditions. It’s a very personal choice that will depend on your path.
