Our team rider Lou Thouin describes the qualities of the Ypra Surf-Freestyle, which he now uses for wing foil sessions on his home spots in south-east France.

Take off and range of conditions
“I’ve been riding the Ypra Surf-Freestyle for a while now, most of the time with the S size, which is 600 cm2, and I’m switching to the M, or even the L in the light wind, which are 700 and 800 cm2 respectively. From 15 knots, I ride the S. I weigh 57 kg. The take off is really easy for a perf front wing with great lift at low speed.
Speed and rail-to-rail
“The Ypra Surf-Freestyle keeps the same speed advantage as the Ypra-S, but gains in stability. That’s my feeling. I haven’t yet had the chance to test it in pure speed with a GPS. The rail-to-rail is very intuitive, allowing to be both radical and smooth when carving. You can really send it, and if the tips come out of the water, it doesn’t ventilate.”
Pop and glide
“This is definitely the best for surfing and freestyle. The pop is just crazy, it’s a game-changer. Low-speed lift makes repop much easier. This enables very smooth receptions without difficulties.
The foil is very versatile, with a great glide, excellent upwind, and low stall speed. The rail-to-rail and low stall speed make this front wing really cool in waves. In freestyle, it excels with its huge pop, you can feel that it’s really made for this!”
The stab to pair with the Ypra Surf-Freestyle
“I combine the Ypra Surf-Freestyle with the Freestyle stab for maximum pop and tight turns. In my opinion, the best freestyle combo is to combine a Ypra Surf-Freestyle S with an XXS Freestyle stab, HM85 mast, FSP Pro 4’4 Stunt and UPE Droid wing. With the Ypra Surf-Freestyle S, I have almost as much lift as with a Ypra-S M. Basically, this front wing is a pure delight…”
