We highlight the good spirit of Jérémy who shared his experience on our Facebook group GONG Galaxy to help others in their choice of gear. Here he shares a few words on his transition from the HIPE 5’3 to the Kube 4’3.
“A little feedback on the Kube 4’3 of 80L that I have been using for about fifteen sessions in winds between 9 to 35 knots.
I come from a HIPE 5’3 v1 and I wanted a slightly more “performance” rigid board. I move around a lot, so my first need was to have the shortest possible board that would fit in my car trunk and go have fun in the waves.
I am therefore clearly beside the target of the Kube. Regarding the longitudinal balance of the board, it clearly took me 2-3 sessions to get used to it. I weigh 75kg, I also had to get used to a volume close to my weight. On the other hand, I find it very stable sideways. For pumping, it took me much longer to find a low range similar to the one I had acquired on the HIPE. The technique has nothing to do and I had to re-learn a gesture on the synchronization of the legs with the wing.
Once in flight, compared to the HIPE, you feel the foil more directly and it gave me real progress in pumping and surfing.
I have a 1m carbon mast below, with a Curve XL or Veloce L-T depending on the wind. The strange feeling at first of having nothing in front of your front foot is quickly forgotten and is rather exhilarating.
Using an inflatable since the beginning of the HIPE at GONG, I had forgotten that a rigid board is fragile and I have already done a few minor dings, you have to be careful.
Fun fact that I can’t explain to myself, I gradually moved the position of the mast back in the boxes to find more sensations in the front foot. It is now on the ¾ back.
All in all, a very lively and super atypical board that gives a feeling of lightness in the maneuvers and the waves, just fun!
I should go back to my HIPE once to finish the comparison.
Hoping to have been able to help.”
