FEEDBACK: VELOCE XL-H

Bumping into one of our technical advisors in a parking lot, Jean-Marie had the opportunity to test the Veloce XL-H. Here’s the feedback he shared on our facebook page :

““A huge thank you to Anthony for giving me the opportunity to test this new front wing yesterday afternoon. The high aspect Veloce XL-H (1150cm²). Great in downwind. And not as hard to take off with as I anticipated.

So I’m 70kg. I have about two years of experience (even if in absolute terms that doesn’t mean much). I was sailing with a Fluid L-T before testing this high aspect front wing. I would say the wind was blowing at about 15/17 knots. The body of water was very choppy with some swell lines to surf. Lots of seaweed on the surface and in mid-water. I had already tried a HA wing from another brand on another board… Well, I couldn’t take off… so at this point I was a little doubting my level. But I know my board by heart.

Blown away by the take off of this Veloce H… It takes off like my Fluid with the wind of that day.

If it took two or three pumping strokes on the Fluid, it might need one or two more on the Veloce H to take off. I wonder how low in wind it can take off without having to pump for 10 seconds. Regarding top speed, it was difficult to judge with all the seaweed. A permanent handbrake. But the few times I had clean runs, it worked well. For jibes and surfing carves… a bit tricky at first. At the beginning, given the wingspan, you don’t dare go full on… you draw wide lines and then gradually you tighten the curves and you go for it… and the more energy you put in your curve, the more the front wing gives you back. I also have an XXL Veloce for light wind conditions, with more longboard curves. The Veloce H is on another level. The cord and surface do the difference. The main point for me was its capacity in downwind, so when wing foiling, but I would love to test it in SUP foiling in downwind. It’s another world compared to my Veloce XXL. It glides much much much longer… while accepting the kind of curves you need to do to follow the swell. I already do SUP foiling in waves but I’m only starting in downwind and take offs on the flat. I just wonder if I could get it to take off with just a paddle. In conclusion, I still haven’t ordered it because I was wondering if I had the right level for it (done now, it’s ok) and I was hesitating between Fluid and Veloce, with downwinds as the main objective. And light wind conditions as the second one (10/15 knots). So I would probably go for the Veloce H! That’s all folks. I would have liked a second test because the first one is mainly a discovery of the gear. It takes a while to understand how it really works.”
