Review of the Trail front wing– the dock start foil that makes pump foiling accessible to the widest audience, tested by David in the challenging conditions of a standing start.
Pump foiler: Arihi, GONG team rider, on the Kluber HDCC and Trail foil.
Starting from a Standstill with the Trail
"I had the chance to test the Trail XXL during a standstill start session from a home built platform. There was no possibility of a running start. It was a first for me. I'm used to launching off a long dock with the Sirus, which I love for its glide. After just a couple of dives and crashes, the magic kicked in! I jumped while holding onto the board a fraction of a second longer, as if to activate the foil by pushing it through the water—and I was off. Despite my snail pace and the board skimming just above the water, I managed with small pumping movements to generate lift, rise up high on the mast, and pick up speed."
Lift, Acceleration, and Stability
"It was truly surprising to be able to accelerate this way—just with small impulses that generate an incredible amount of lift, without especially intense physical effort. The low-speed lift is insane. Exactly what I needed for a standing start. In flight, it's especially forgiving and predictable. Stable, yet responsive to foot pressure for turning around. I surprised myself by making a long run without getting too winded. You don’t waste energy finding the right rhythm or stance. Really awesome. I would recommend it without hesitation to a beginner or for rock starts."
