FEEDBACK: THE FORK EPS IS JUST MIND BLOWING !!!

Pleasure and sharing are key values at GONG. At the end of the day we all want to have fun on the water. It is in this spirit that we received a nice feedback from Julien on the FORK EPS which is “Just MIND BLOWING” 🙂

“Today I had my first surf on the Fork, in 1.50 to 2m and even more on the sets. Not hollow at all but rolling through nicely with a decent shoulder, still with power (Mediterranean). One of the best sessions since January 2020 with this small 5-knot offshore blowing.

So I don’t know if my opinion is biased thanks to the conditions which were perfect, but this Fork in 5’6 is just MIND BLOWING !!!

It had the same advantages I enjoyed on the Pie:

– take-off is easy or even easier (despite 3L less). Easy paddling (less roll), despite 5/4 wetsuit, booties, gloves, hood (3 degrees during the session). I weigh 66kg for 1.68m (32 years old and extremely athletic, I have a “correct” level in shortboard without being very good)

– breathtaking handling. The board has this little something that allows you to hold a line, make a big curve, or change direction with a snap. It does not block, it turns on the spot, like having a skate under your feet, like the Pie or other twin fish. But I maintain that it also holds a straight line at high speed. I imagine that we can thank the slightly advanced quad for this extreme versatility.

– super speed even without working the board, without being excessive, just enough.

I absolutely do not find some things I disliked on the Pie. Namely its instability, especially on the take-off, I am much more serene. You have the ability to turn so short and easily and when you push on your legs it holds!

Where she bluffed me downright is when at the end of the wave it softens. I tried to press a little on the front to catch the reform, just not enough at this point so I tried harder by putting my 2 feet in the front (not like a hang ten but with my 2 feet on the first third of the board, area where you never go on a 5’6 shortboard!). There I catch up with the reform, I reposition myself normally and continue to surf my wave. I tell myself: “you really were lucky, it’s not a very stable place to be on”. Except that 10 min later, I repeat the same move on another wave. If that’s not proof of stability!

I found that the board was extremely forgiving. It looked like the Fork was driving itself! As its description indicates, it really has the qualities of a performance shortboard and a fish, without the disadvantages of either.

As much as I did not really totally enjoy the Pie, I am so gaga over this Fork. For now, I can only find qualities in it, we will see how it goes in the next sessions, in hollower waves.”
