FEEDBACK : surfoil Allvator !!!

“Hello,
Since I see so much excitement and diverse questions about the Surfoil, to clear up some things with friends that ask questions, here is a little condensation of my apprenticeship in Surfoil (Allvator & Catch Foil), after 6 sessions, the last being this morning.
My profile : 20 years doing Kite, 5 on a Foil, 25 years Surfing, Sup, Longboarding etc…
To summarize : You need to start in soft and long waves, ideally with as few people in the water as possible (as a general rule these conditions don’ t attract people anyway).
First sensations when Paddling : the Board is super stable, thanks to the appendage under it. Ultimately you rowing is quite fast, most likely due to the sustainment of the Foil, even at lower speeds. This stability you will finad again at the time of take off. All you need is a wave that pushes a little, even the foam for surfing it after it reforms.
The critical moment is obviously the transition between the Archimedean mode and flight. If all goes well you will feel it once you’re up.
At first, I would say it’s kinda like Kite : to control the beast, put everything on the front foot to avoid the Foils tendency to rear up (except for surfing, with which it’s supposed to project at the bottom of the wave, which isn’t necessarily natural). After bending your knees, instead of feeling your body go down, it is the Board that is going to mount. For your information, I had started by advancing the top plate forward in the rails, with the idea to start flying early, And the last two sessions I pulled her back, with better results : The effect of the weight over the front foot is doubled and calmed down the rearing up of the foil the moment I start catching some speed.
Easier to say than to do, evidently, but far from impossible. I was flying steady after the second session (know that the conditions the first time were really poor, but it did teach me how to manipulate the equipment in the water).
Essential element : Foot positioning. Especially at the moment that you’re going to start pumping (yes, like Kai or Béryl, and you’ll see, the desire comes quick) to have sufficient amplitude while pumping. Positioning is also indispensable for turns and for mastering the flight height precisely. If not, it’s like classic surfing : back foot too far forward = board doesn’t turn (especially in backside).
Finally, this thing is really incredible. Same sensations of flight you get from Kiting, but with simply the power of the wave. It’s magic. And above all, there is so much to learn.
See ya soon!”
