FEEDBACK: SURF FOIL LETHAL FSP PRO 5’1

One of the keys to progress in surf foiling is to try new equipment like our ambassador Yohann does. He shares his feedback on his transition from the Matata of his beginnings to the Lethal 5’1, which has a much more radical program.

“I am 95 kg for 1.92m. I got into surf foiling with the 2020 Matata 5’8 61L which was perfect at the start but was getting quite cumbersome when pumping. I was able to test the 5’1 47L yesterday with the Curve XL-T without the straps in very soft and very small choppy waves but which rose in almost 1m of water and in no wind. Conditions that didn’t interest any surfer except for 2 beginners on soft deck boards.
I had a slight doubt about the take-offs in the less powerful waves but it had no problems at all. Yesterday I caught almost all the waves for which I paddled and no need to go to the inside to take off with the whitewater. I managed to catch them early enough to surf them a bit before going out on the shoulder and looking for reconnections. Not sure I would have caught more with the Matata 5’8. The glide of the board is good and I realize that the more I surf foil, the more I put pressure on the foil, even before getting up, so I didn’t really have the feeling of making any particular effort to take off 😉
Lightness
In the air, whether surfing or pumping, it’s no surprise that its lightness and reduced length helps a lot: it is forgotten in the surf and pumping is much easier. I don’t know if it’s just because it’s shorter or if the shape of the nose accentuates the phenomenon, but I have the impression of having gained a lot of margin for my trajectories without risking touchdowns.
To sum up, I’m a big fan of the board and the only doubt I have is: Would the 4’8 not be enough for me? “
