FEEDBACK: PULSE DP UPE ARAMID

Back at the GONG Space Center after his best performance in Racing, securing second place in the World Cup, Julien Rattotti shares his feedback on the wing that helped him win numerous races.

A Completely Different Feel
“This wing is designed for those seeking long, high-speed runs. It’s one of the most stable wings, especially when used with a harness. Its boom makes it incredibly versatile because you can easily adjust the harness line based on your preference. We all have different ways of sailing, and the boom offers this huge advantage. Sensation-wise, it’s a wing that feels completely different from traditional wings.”
Breaking Speed Records
“It needs speed to perform at all angles. During sessions, I feel strong pull on the front hand, similar to the sensation of a slalom sail in windsurfing. To optimize this front hand pull, I chose to slightly move back the harness lines, allowing me to drive the wing forward and generate speed. Then it’s all about leaning into the harness and gritting your teeth to break speed records.”
Perfectly Laminar Flow
“When using this wing in Cagliari for the World Cup, I could compare it and conduct speed tests with other riders, revealing several important points. For instance, the wing must remain stable and consistent to offer maximum speed, much like SailGP boats with rigid profiles that stay steady, ensuring perfectly laminar flow. This applies to all high-speed crafts. Beyond 18 to 20 knots, there’s no need to pump with the wing, but if you stay well-harnessed, the sail doesn’t move, and you pump with your legs, it provides impressive speed.”
Speed Gain to Stay on Course
“Be careful not to sheet in too much before gaining speed, as the double profile will let you know, and you’ll be forced to bear away. It’s better to opt for a slight bear away before sheeting in and use your gained speed to stay on course. Following this strategy, I could ultimately maintain a better course than my competitors, and most importantly, go faster! The combination of these factors played a significant role in long-distance races where speed was essential. This glide allowed me to win races by nearly 250 meters, demonstrating the performance and qualities of this wing.”
