FEEDBACK: PULSE BOOM

Feedback from Mike who was able to test the Pulse Boom of his session buddy Warrick and at the same time remove all his doubts about wing foiling! 👍

Wing foiler: Mathieu, GONG team rider, with a Pulse Boom.

“Apologies for the lack of pictures with this one… my friend and riding buddy Mike has been testing the Pulse Boom in 5m… he is a very good windsurfer – loops and jumps etc – and before this test he was considering to stop winging. He is new to winging, and with the boom wing he made his first full flying gybes After trying the boom wing, he tells me that now he has found the power and he is staying as a Wingfoiler! Patrice Guénolé you are saving wingfoilers

Anyway here is his review… HIPE v2 5’1, Fluid XLT, 85kg rider (yes yes in my group I am the “strongest one” )

*On land*

Usually the wings are packed in a small backpack. The Boom of the Pulse cannot be bent, so the backpack size is different than usual. The wing is delivered in a long bag, as usual with GONG – in good quality. Pump and accessories also find space in the bag. Yes, bag – it’s not a backpack anymore. But it has a shoulder strap.

Even if the packing format (150cm length) is unusual at first, the advantage becomes apparent when it is unrolled and later when it is rolled up. Both of these are quick, because no assembly was required. Just pump it up and you’re ready to go. Despite the boom, the wing is extremely light. The quality of the fabric and the seams are top notch as always. When inflated, the Pulse shows a nice and stable profile. 6 mini battens support the wing. Thanks to the boom, the middle strut is nice and stiff and should provide more propulsion when pumping.

*On the water*

The wing was easy in the bag and set up on land, but the feeling increased even more in the water. The wing comes out of the water quickly and pulls you straight to your feet. The Pulse has enormous power and feels stronger in stronger winds than the lightwind-wing Superpower. (Note: Mike compares to his non-boom SP6 2023).

Once in the air, you quickly feel comfortable with the Pulse. It’s still a bit restless on land, but he quickly becomes neutral on the water. It is hardly noticeable when surfing. In the gusts it glides through very well and shows its full potential. There is no such thing as being overpowered. You simply slide a little closer to the guide hand on the boom. That is the advantage of the carbon spar. Pumping is completely different than with fabric handles. Push and pull movements are much more efficient and provide much more propulsion.

*Conclusion*

A lightweight wing ideal for a wide range and for a one wing strategy.” After this test, his thoughts are to invest into the Neutra 4.5 and the Superpower 6, both with the boom… and then UPE arrived, so now he considers the Droid in UPE 6 with boom!”

heart heart-full
