FEEDBACK: PULSE BOOM

A detailed feedback from Yohann, GONG ambassador, who tested the new Pulse Boom.

“The conditions of the test: Very light wind, which really drops between the gusts. I had left my Veloce XXL-H with someone so normally I would have taken the Plus 6 with the Veloce XL-H I was riding, certainly not a 5. So to make sure I would take-off, I inflated the HIPE Pro 5’3 and I went out Veloce XL-T. No significant waves, just a very long and very very flat swell which allowed for a mini downwind when combined with the small chop.
So I’m not really going to be able to tell you about its performance. What I can tell you:
– the pumping is a bit confusing, but I had no real difficulty taking off. – when pumping it lives much more than my Plus or Neutra, the tips open up more and come back into place quickly. I had a doubt as to whether I had inflated it enough or if it was a function to dampen gusts. Maybe more the latter as I didn’t feel the need to inflate it at all, even when I took a break in the middle. – I found the glide in the air of the SP 2023 ? – at the first freefly I had the impression that the rear of the wing sank a little more than it would with the Plus or Neutra, then I adapted and it didn’t happen again. And then I started to play with the boom from time to time during the following freeflys: in these tiny bumps, it’s quite fun to cheat by holding the boom with one hand but not necessarily exactly in neutral. – holding the wing by the bend of the boom instead of the freefly handle is really nice, now I can’t wait to test the pistol grip of the Neutra. – in the maneuvers there is a real plus, after two hours I had modified how I switched tacks with a feeling of precision and additional speed. – I didn’t find any downside to the boom apart from the long bag. – the wing is really stable, by dint of playing with holding it with one hand, I ended up trying to let go of the boom to hold it only by the harness line: it went surprisingly well.
In the end it’s rather fun to play with this cheerleader stick.
If the boom was available for the Plus, I think I’d crack right away and replace my big ones (6+5). Here I am in hesitation for the 5.
In summary, I found the wing very pleasant, the boom does not revolutionize my practice but it is more fun. I imagine on the other hand that if you get too comfortable, it must quickly become difficult to come back to soft handles, at the end of the session I had already started to take on some new habits.”
