FEEDBACK: PULSE BOOM

Full feedback from our ambassador Frédéric about the Pulse Boom, with supporting images.

“To be honest, I had a rather negative preconception on the wings with boom before testing, especially for a question of weight and “lack of simplicity” of use. Seeing some wings of other brands, assembly/disassembly seemed to be an unnecessary hassle… Nevertheless, being curious, I was delighted to finally be able to test one ?

First pleasant surprise, the “long and thin” bag of this wing is not really heavier than that of the Neutra 4.5/5.5. I even thought something was missing in the bag ? ? Well, as it turns out, everything was in there with the boom and the 2 slats on the tips mounted and ready to go…? So all there was left to do is pump and off you go like you would with handles . I guess that when you receive this new wing the first time you must surely assemble everything but after you can let everything rigged up and store it like that.

In any case, it’s solid, it’s beautiful, it’s well finished.

We can see the quality of the boom’s attachment to the strut and the new wasp waist of the strut on this Pulse version. On the ground it does not move. We see that it has undergone solid research, it is not an amateur job, we are serene when going into the water with it. Lifting the gear on the beach, surprise once again as it seems very light despite this boom and the 2 slats on the tips.? Besides, I had fixed some extra weight with a self made harness line (not having those recommended by GONG yet) and also my Go Pro max 360 with the fly Mount on one tip, plus a remote control on the boom… ? So added weight and a lot of mess in my hands ?

To sum up how it sails: it is super stable and rigid.

When pumping, its profile with the 6 mini battens on the trailing edge associated with the boom is terribly effective. It’s very direct and reactive, no imprecision, it pulls right away. Once in the air, the hollow is well locked, it feels like sailing with a racing windsurfing sail with cambers. The wing does not move. We can concentrate on flying and it accelerates hard. ? Heading upwind is just crazy ?. I would have loved to take it out in stronger winds like 20-30 knots. I think it would not flinch and just fly. The freeride/race goals are perfectly fulfilled. This wing will be great for relaxed riding but also on speed runs with friends or on Défiwing type competitions… In the absence of strong wind, and given the bumpy conditions, I was also able to test its freeflying and jumping abilities… surprisingly, everything falls to hand with this boom, which is light and ergonomic and seems very solid. I had no problem adapting, of course it is not a Neutra that excels in the field but it works great, even if it is not its program.

I find the boom perfect in size, dimension and placement.

The hands come to rest intuitively, and in the maneuvers it is very easy to slide them. It seems essential to me to use a harness to exploit this wing. For me, who sails 100% of the time already with a harness on the Neutra, most of the time more than 2 hours easy, it’s obvious, as it delivers a lot of power. When I think back to the first wings Plus of 2019/2020 I tell myself that GONG is a hard-working team. Thank you to the whole development team for making us such cool toys to use, I enjoy every novelty and every session.
