Feedback from Pascal who took the time to share his experience on our forum after a first session on the Mob Rad 7’11.
“Hello,
I was finally able to surf my 7’11 Mob Rad FSP Pro in average conditions, small 0,80m waves with some wind.
As I have a poor physical condition and no power whatsoever in my legs (1,75m for 71 kg), I wanted stability and I got it! The board is extremely comfortable, well balanced on the water. The positive point is that I no longer needlessly burn myself out just to keep the balance which allowed me to stay on the water for almost one hour longer than usual without feeling a lack of energy. It’s huge, not to mention that this comfort allows me to take a lot more waves in the end and that’s great!
First wave
Take off without problem and quite similar to a take off on my Karmen 8’4, maybe a bit less early or let’s say that it takes a little more work with the paddle but I expected it since the Mob is shorter and much wider. I go for the 1st turn and I’m not turning! Okay, I have to adapt my foot position.
On the following waves,
I look for a better stance and place my feet better. Little by little, I refine the stance and I even get surprised by some very short and incisive turns. The potential is there! It is now up to me to refine my positioning to make the most of it, including in the relaunches and in gaining speed. I have felt it fly like a rocket a few times, but not systematically; it is purely a question of technique of the guy who is on the board… But I feel that I will improve quickly because the board is really easy.
In fact, I’m used to the glide of the Karmen but that has nothing to do with it. I definitely love the wave feel of the Karmen which is much closer to what I knew on my windsurfing wave boards. The Mob has a very different handling to produce a surf that I would describe as more versatile and punchy. There’s no need to say, it’s got it in its stomach, but it’s going to be up to me to get out of what I’m used to doing and revisit my surfing a bit.
In short, the fun is there
and it’s a very successful shape that ticks all the boxes of its program.
My only regret is the choice I made regarding the size. I wanted comfort, but ultimately a little too much. Well I fixed my longitudinal stability problem which was costing me too much energy on the Karmen. The Mob’s wide butt does the job perfectly at this level, but I should have opted for the Mob Cool 7’6 that is less bulky and more suited to my size.”
