Tested straight out of the delivery box, the Matata 6’3 won Emmanuel over. He shared his feedback on our GONG Galaxy group on Facebook.

“Here’s my review of the Matata in 6’3 EPS, the mini Simmons surfboard. Thanks to GONG’s ultra-fast delivery, I was able to get into the water this weekend in Oléron with this little beast. Long swell (14 second period), light offshore, body of water with hollow sets and also some fat and soft waves. 1m to 1m50. Due to the period, the sets weren’t always clean. First, the size of the board is perfect for me (95 kg, geared-up for the winter ?).
“Take off early, very easy.”
The paddle is easy despite the roll linked to its width. It’s stable on the water. It saved the session for me because I was able to surf a lot of waves despite the long period and even when it’s soft, it takes off and flies. Take off early, very easy, by corking the board before paddling (very good even when it gets hollow, just stay on the trim line). All the more obvious as I really had no arms today! It picks up speed quickly making the turns quite easy to engage (you never stop the board!). That being said, I’m not doing crazy turns at my level.? The wide tail did not bother me, on the contrary I feel like I always have fuel left in the tank (impossible to lose the wave once standing!). Backside is more technical when it’s hollow, otherwise it’s the same pleasure!
In short, this shape is a HUGE surprise.
When the sets come in while I’m paddling back to the peak, no worries about duck diving, even if it’s a little physical. You can do 5 or 6 without worries while waiting for it to calm down. Put the board horizontally under the water while duck diving and you’ll pop out the other end. Very happy with this purchase. I look forward to the next sessions.”
