FEEDBACK: MATATA EPS

Evelin explains why the transition from her 9 feet longboard to the 5’2 Matata is always super smooth and a lot of fun.

Surfer: Evelin, GONG Team Rider, with the Matata EPS.

Feels like a longboard, turns like a shortboard

“In a way the Matata is a board that reminds me a lot of a longboard. It has what I really love about them in terms of looks and shape. As with a longboard it’s super easy to get into the wave. In sessions with the Matata you always catch a lot of waves, much like you would with a longboard. It’s a more responsive surfboard though that requires precise movements to turn correctly. It can be surprising at first for such a wide tail to be so responsive. So you need to adapt but that’s what’s so fun about it. It’s compact with a lot of drive no matter how slow the waves are.

Perfect in soft waves, still great on juicier waves

“It really is a magic stick in soft waves. It accelerates hard from the take off. Speed and drive are never an issue on the softer sections. When it gets a bit hollower, it’s compactness allows you to still squeeze into the wave and do really fun turns with it.

With the Keel twin fins way back on the board you have a great pivot point and a very good grip in the wave. Coming from longboarding the Matata really is the smoothest transition to a shortboard for me. What it can do on a wave is really something to experience.”
