Transitioning from the Lance wing board to the Lemon and from the X-Over foil to the Curve H, Lalo shares his first impressions with all those who would like to follow suit.

Quiver and setup

“It can surely interest novices like me to have a little feedback on the Lemon 5’2 (105 L) and a foil composed of the HM86, a Curve-H XL, and a Curve 46 stab. I’ve been winging since July last year, I fly and jibe. I’m starting to tackle the tack… slowly because it’s winter and I don’t want to fall…

Before, I had a 120-liter Lance and a X-Over XXL foil to begin, then I took a Fluid XL.

My sessions on this new gear have been with GONG Plus 6m2, 5m2, and 4m2, in flat to choppy water. With wind from 11 to 35 knots.”

Takeoff with the Lemon

“The Lemon didn’t take me much time to get used to its slight instability compared to the Lance. On flat water, no problem, in choppy waters you have to be a bit more careful.

I did, however, notice a huge difference during takeoff. Its narrower width and flat tail make the board accelerate faster than the Lance. It’s really noticeable and nice to have to pump less to fly, and it’s much less physical!”

Behavior in flight

“In flight, the board is more enjoyable because it’s more lively yet very balanced. Touchdowns are barely felt, it re-launches immediately, and that’s great because it’s much less tiring not to have to constantly work to relaunch. Small mistakes at the jibe exit are also easier to recover from thanks to this increased vivacity.”

The Curve H setup with the HM86 mast

“The HM86 is magnificent. I really felt the difference in rigidity in flight with a more direct sensation.

The Curve H XL is just great. I found it very, very easy and much more enjoyable to sail than my former foil. Its takeoff is fast, very progressive, and very smooth.”

The glide of the Curve

“It has more speed, with remarkable stability compared to the Fluid. In jibes, you can lean in and it maintains lift the whole time without any treacherous movements. You’re like on a rail.

Thanks to this wing, I finally understand what “glide” is… and it’s just magical! I had felt this sensation a bit with the Fluid, but with the Curve H, I really feel it and it’s great. This glide greatly facilitates maneuvers, and I think tacks will be easier thanks to it as well..

The glide of the Curve H is addictive, and now I only think about one thing, going back to the water. A front wing that I find very safe and reassuring, with excellent maneuverability for its size. The only thing that scares me a little is the sharpness of the tips… but at least it glides, and it’s maneuverable. I’ll take an L for strong winds.
