FEEDBACK: KITE UNIK V2 7M²

First session with a Unik 7m² for Gaby who shares his feedback on our forum.

 

 

“Wind about 20/25 knots, quite gusty and very onshore. Small waves of 1m, some sets at 1.5m (some shore break waves and some nice waves on sandbanks). Test with the Catch 5’0 under my feet.

Always very happy with this model, very stable, good reactivity, medium bar pressure to light.

It really pivots in its center and does not produce power during this time. Then when it goes across the window the power is present and you have to follow it or shock to keep your speed without being overwhelmed. This is also the only time when it slightly flaps. That is when we go from a 2 o’clock position in the window to a 10 o’clock one with the bar shocked. We then arrive at the limit of the tension of the spinnaker of a mono-batten (and yet I know three battens kites which flap a lot at the same time…). If, on the contrary, during the surf, we let it gradually go up (from 2 o’clock to 11.30), the kite will move back gently without flapping and without loss of information. We can place it as we want in the window and that’s really cool!

For on-shore conditions it surprised me.

It was my first session with the Unik in this size, even when I messed up 2-3 times or it reached the edge of the window when I was surfing it did not lose its flight. Since it reacts quickly, I always had time to downloop it to get it going again. I’m normally more used to hybrid C-type kites that turn on the ear, but I really liked this Unik in surfing.”
