FEEDBACK: KITE UNIK

A quick feedback from Gabriel on our forum, which looks back on his last session with the Unik.

   

“I was able to test the Unik V2 in 5m last weekend in 25 to 30+ knots with a strapless surf.

I weigh 78kg and I have quite a few years of experience in kitesurfing. In these strong and especially gusty conditions, the Unik pleasantly surprised me! With a single strut I was a little afraid of flapping or not maintaining the profile in gusts and nay!! The kite was very stable, did not flap at all (except on downloops or when flying through the window with shocked bar), the power was really progressive, in the wind holes it was enough to move a little to recover power and in the gusts I didn’t need to trim the kite more than halfway.

The handling is really great too,

not too mosquito-style for a wing of this size, no need to put a big angle on the bar to make it change windows (that being said, it’s a 5m…). The bar pressure is also super balanced, as much as I found the 9 Unik a bit too light, the 5m returns the right information at the right time, one-handed steering all the time, no heaviness… PERFECT! The big positive point was that in these complicated conditions the kite was super stable all the time, no huge pull in the harness, deformation, lag time, soft turns… nothing! A great session that really reconciled me to single struts kites in strong winds”
