Gear and level

“Feedback on my new HIPE Perf 2023 5’1 after 3 sessions with it. This may help some people in choosing the size of their HIPE Perf! My size: 1m85 for 85kg. Level: I have been winging since September 2022, tacking, jibing (100%), switching stance (9 times/10), jumping (only in one direction 😅). I am sailing in the Gulf of Morbihan, no waves at the moment.”

Transitioning from 145L to 85L

“I had the HIPE 2022 5’5 (145 L) and I dared to upgrade to the HIPE Perf 2023 5’1. I talked a lot with Antoine at the GONG Space Center shop who gave me very good advice and convinced me to switch from 145 L to 85 L!! I wasn’t totally sure but hey… Well, another big thank you to Antoine because it turned out to be the perfect choice!!! The hardest part is finding the balance at the start so I had the wing way more! Which I didn’t do much with the 5’5. And once I understood that, what joy! To take off, it’s easier because I don’t have to pump as much!”

The feeling in flight

“In flight, it’s very playful but it can be controlled surprisingly well! Same thing when it comes to jibing, it ain’t more complicated than with the 5’5, quite the contrary! It’s really surprising because when you would think it’s going to be way more sketchy on a reduced volume, well it’s almost simpler. Same for switching feet, balance is easily found. And finally, the jumps were going way higher! I really had a blast 🤪.

At first I was thinking about the 5’3… In the end I am very satisfied to have switched to the 5’1 for these 3 sessions in winds from 12 to 19kts. I am aware that with a stronger wind the balance on the board will be a little more challenging but it should be OK…😉”
