Point of view

“90 kg, 58 years old, experienced winger, freefly, wave/chop riding, freeride, no jumps

Reference boards: Lethal 2024 5’6 120l, Lethal 2023 5’3 105l, HIPE Pro 2022 5’6 115l

5 days IJsselmeer with very good wind, mainly 4m² wings.

Shortly: The new HIPE Perf 5’3 is an incredibly good, comfortable and very sporty board that leaves nothing to be desired. Clearly: ***** (5 stars).”

Comfort and take off

“Rising up: The big surprise! At 100l it is my “smallest” board to date. In terms of balance there is no difference at all to the Lethal 5’6 with 120l and is way easier than the Lethal 5’3. And for old knees, kneeling before the start is balm.

Start/Start: The next big surprise! It immediately starts gliding and reaches take off speed (Veloce V2) very, very quickly. Only at the lowest end (wind) do you need perhaps 1x more pumps than with the Lethal 5’6. So actually no difference. This is much better than the HIPE Pro and it actually wasn't bad at it.”

Once flying

“It is extremely responsive (left/right), but requires a little more control for front/back. For me it is a carve/wave board. Using the rake shim I was able to eliminate the initial contact between the rail and the water on very tight turns.

Touch down/recovering: Here you can feel a strong vibration and absorption of forces. There isn't much energy left for a repop. It does work, but not as often/easily as with a Lethal.

And otherwise: It's just nice that there's not as much risk of damaging the board when getting on and off the water on rocky surfaces. Kneeling is a blessing and the space required when traveling is great. And last but not least: the price/performance ratio is unbeatable.
