The inflatable board that gets the whole fam into wing foiling does also shine on windless days in SUP foiling!
Pierre shares his feedback about SUP foiling with the HIPE First, the board he usually uses to introduce his friends to wing foiling.

Foiling without having to pull on my back
“I’ve done SUP surfing for over 10 years now, but haven’t touched a SUP for 2 years… Wing foiler, Surf foiler a little hampered in my progress by back pain (not enough land training in addition to water sports and recent fatigue mean that I have been out of the game for 4 weeks). I’ve been challenged for a long time by buddies to test SUP foiling. So I said to myself that it might be a good way to go foiling without having to pull on my back… I took my good old Carbon Pro paddle from 2014(!), the HIPE First 5’11 (my loaner board for beginner friends and family) and the new Curve XXL and Fluid H 45.”
It’s way doable and it glides well
“When arriving at the spot I realized the waves were much bigger than what I usually need to surf foil (can I even get past the waves?). 50-60cm with shoulder size sets. Beautiful peaks that reel off, so let’s go! I get through the first lines paddling on my belly and take advantage of a lull to stand up, and surprise, it’s way doable and it glides well. I stand with my feet offset, the Row is important, but by going far with the blade and finishing near the rail, it goes straight with at least 6-7 paddling strokes before changing hands, it’s not bad.
First wave attempt, I’m in a bad position, I miss and fall. Second wave, I take off and fly for the entire wave! Then I exit rather smoothly through the foam and hover for another 10m behind the wave without doing anything, thanks to the new Curve!!!”
Excellent glide of the HIPE First
“I’m gaining confidence and will end up catching about 15 waves in 1h30, some of them very fat. Very surprised to see some waves pass under me and still manage to catch them. The foil took off multiple times despite feeling like I would be left behind the wave. Also surprised by the excellent glide of the HIPE First!
The Curve, as I felt during previous tests, is super stable, the lift is early (I took off from the same place as my experienced friend on an NFA 9’0) and remains neutral when the waves start to hollow out and that’s truly extraordinary comfort! When it accelerates hard, the foil stays on its trajectory and its trim, we don’t get thrown out at all.”
€299 for a quality board
In short, I was surprised to get there so easily with my current 97kg. And again amazed by the quality of development of GONG products, and the performance of a model dedicated to beginners and small budgets (€299 for a quality board!!!)
Bravo Patrice Guénolé and the GONG Galaxy Group team”
