Ismaël gives us his feedback on the HIPE Cruzader Strapless and tells us how he adapted to this unique shape.

The conditions of the session:
“I left work, checked the weak forecasts and I thought to myself: normally I would not go but I have a new toy to try. I arrived on the spot at 6:30 p.m., nobody, a few fishermen who were packing before the rain, almost no air… slight breeze which only allowed a sailboat to move forward little by little. Rider: 1m75 / 66kg”
The gear of the session:
- SP6 2023,
- Mast 65 v2
- Fluid XXL-S
- Stab Fluid H45
First session:
“7 p.m. in the water: the board is moving fast! And the balance easier than I thought, the experience on the HIPE Pro 5’3 must have helped. First gust, weak but long: I’m flying!!! And there I remembered the video of Aurélien Qri who said “there is no air !! It is really something!!! » Then the flight, easy to control despite the 2m40 long, first jibe almost successful, fell on the switch of feet… Then succession of flights thanks to the weak gusts and the jibes got better.“
A few tips for taking up the challenge “ The sky is clouding over, a few stronger gusts at 11-12 knots, then the rain and the end of the session. The few (temporary) difficulties at the beginning are about getting going: The slightest heel or toe pressure on the width of the board makes it tilt on its longitudinal axis, making you lose balance. You can recover from the situation as you would for ankles exercises at the Physio… I quickly found the right position. At the very beginning, you don’t really know where to position your feet, I had the front foot a little too forward, which made my nose dive a little under the water. I sometimes found my 6m (yet so compact!) a little cumbersome, I got tangled up with the front of the board several times when I went on my knees after a fall, or sometimes when pumping: a wing with less surface would probably be a little more suitable. I totally forgot that I was riding strapless, even though it was the first time for me: I didn’t miss it for a second! I had a bit trouble heading upwind when I was only planing because I was too busy trying to keep the board flat and to find the right position of the feet, but over the session it improved and the good position was found instinctively. I followed GONG’s advice, I positioned the foil on the front.” An amazing glide “The glide from the board to the planing is amazing, even when you want to make an easy maneuver on the water it continues to move forward! The touchdowns when flying have almost no impact, ditto, when you start to take off, no loss of speed!” Balance easy to find “Balance is easy to find and flight easy to control. It quickly becomes fun. Thanks to this planing speed, as soon as there is a little air in the wing, the board starts to take off, it’s magic! Congratulations GONG!”
Thanks to Ismaël for this feedback. It is thanks to you and this kind of feedback that we give our all every day to allow you to fly 365 days a year 😉
