FEEDBACK : GONG SUP 9'0 NFA FSP 2X XL !!!

Jean-louis is one of our early GONG Ambassadors. It was in 2006 that he discovered SUP and met the L’Ours. He had made his debut with a 12’0 NFA, which is still his favourite shape today.

“My SUP debut, I don’t have the year in mind exactly, but I’d say about 2006. I’ve been surfing since I was a kid in Morocco and at that time, the  president/creator, since 1993, of the Palus Avis Surf Club in Palavas. Jean-Paul Averty who had met Patrice came to visit me regularly at the club. One day he told me: “I’m bringing back a surprise”. It was a SUP.  The Inspiro I believe as a 12′ model. I then met Patrice during the Conviviale and sessions at Sausset. The adventure with GONG and the SUP began to be written.

So why the NFA?

I started on the NFA 12′ (I had 4 of them). It was the best to learn and evolve. Then I shortened surfing the Greedy in 10′ and since my ideal size for my 95 Kgs it’s 9′ in 120/130 Liters. I also have the Zero in my Quiver.

About the NFA, I will say that I like the clean lines and all generations of the NFA are  super clean. They are well suited to the big blue. I see too many guys who are making it so hard for themselves when they trying to decide to pick a Board and by the time they find one, I’ve taken hundreds of waves. The NFA 9’0 XL in 140L is an absolute comfort and it was my choice for Costa Rica because having only one Board, I just wanted Celine to be cool during her sessions.

The conditions didn’t go beyond 1m50 /2m when we were there. The shape of this Board is so well balanced that you don’t even notice you’re on 140 Liters. When you have a good wave reading with this Board you pick off everything (soft waves without too much size and when it gets more serious) ! Personally I like to go beyond the technical specifications of a Board and feel where and when I can limit myself with a Board like surfing Landes shorebreak. Basically I’m trying to go where some people only go in shortboards and bodysuits.”
