FEEDBACK: FRONT WING CURVE L, LT AND VELOCE XL !!!

An interesting feedback from Sylvain who shares his impressions about dock start on three different Front Wings: the Curve L, the Curve LT and the Veloce XL.

“Test session review for the L, L-T and XL Veloce Front Wings off a Dock start.

The idea of this test was to put the same power in the effort on each Wing to see the difference:

Weight 75kg, Almost 78 with the 4/3, Catch Foil 4’4 Board, 70cm Carbon Mast, 40cm Surf Stab.

Warning: my technique is far from perfect and because of the confinement I have not practiced much these last weeks, I was not at the top … What’s more, these are my feelings that may differ from other people, feelings related to my own technique, size …

In short, here is what I got out of it:

The XL Veloce

Dock start a little more difficult than the L-T, more unstable pitch but glides better once launched. I love it for soft or roller waves, in surfing, it doesn’t kick too much at take off, so you can use it on waves more powerful than the XL Curve. Great for going out to the Peak very easily but the pitch is less stable in the turns and coming out of the wave from the top when its hollow. When the wave fizzles out, on the other hand it’s great. If my board hits the water, it’s usually over, I can’t get it back up, which is not the case on the Curve.

The Curve L-T

I think for my weight it’s the perfect balance to do a little bit of everything. Easy dock start, turns well, stable pitch. I don’t spend too much energy to hold the speed, you’re not far from the glide of the Veloce once you start. The stability, the glide, and the maintenance of the speed in the turns only hints at positivity for the surf to come.

The Curve L

A wing that I love in waves from 80 cm to more. I have a bit of trouble getting it to generate speed without losing too much strength. In the video (click here to watch it)I stop in the middle of the turn, I tried not to push too much and stay in the same effort as the others, but it didn’t carry me enough, so I bail. I managed to make returns by pushing harder, but it was not the idea of the comparison.

To sum up, it’s a bit hard to change Front Wings on 3 starts because the pumping technique is not the same for the 3, especially between the speed and the 2 others. But it allows to immediately feel the effects of lift and stability and therefore to better understand the first differences.

Have a good ride!!!
