FEEDBACK: FLUID FG

The Fluid in its fiberglass construction, reviewed by Gaetan, a GONG ambassador who had the chance to test several sizes of front wings and stabilizers.

“As an experienced rider weighing 78 kg, I used the Fluid FG with the Lethal 4’8 wingboard, Neutra 5m and 4m wings, and the Matata 4’8 surf foil board.

My first impression, both in wing and surf foil, was that it’s incredibly easy and smooth—true to its name 😜.

While winging, I tested it in various wind conditions, ranging from 11–12 knots up to 25 knots, with small waves. I loved both the M and S sizes. I didn’t find much difference between them: takeoff was super easy, they offered excellent speed, and they held their line without flinching. You might get one or two knots earlier lift with the M, but both are super playful and lively. I found the takeoff nearly as easy as with the Curve H V2, but with better top speed. Rail-to-rail transitions are amazing—you can really commit in the turns, and the wings remain stable while reacting quickly.

I tested each front wing with its corresponding stab size, and tried the M with the S stab once. I liked it less; it felt a bit less stable on the longitudinal axis when going straight. However, in surf mode, it allowed for tighter turns. I think GONG’s recommendation to match stab and front wing sizes is wise. In that setup, there’s no issue at all—it’s pure enjoyment.

I also tried the L size, but liked it a bit less. It’s slightly slower and doesn’t turn as tightly as the smaller sizes—which is expected given its larger wingspan. For winging, I think it’s better to stick with the smaller sizes, since the M and S really take off super early.

Finally, the glide is incredible! You can let go of the wing and just keep gliding, surfing through transitions—it’s a joy. Even after a wave, when you lose wind (due to wind shadow or jibing in the same direction as the wind), it keeps going for a long time. And if you don’t touch down, you can relaunch with almost no effort—you’re flying again in no time.”

“That incredible glide also amazed me in surf foil. I used the XL size in small waves. The speed and glide allowed me to connect multiple waves, even though the surf wasn’t generating much speed. It was the foil’s pumping ability and glide performance that let me link waves without too much effort.

So overall—AWESOME GEAR! I really had a blast. I haven’t yet had the chance to use the XS or XXL sizes, so I can’t comment on those. But I imagine they offer the same quality as the rest of the range.

In any case, for advanced riders looking for easy fun, it’s a great choice. And for intermediate riders who want to progress, it’s the perfect path forward.
