The wing program

“I’m the lucky one who won the Droid UPE (4m) at the Halloween contest that GONG organized! I had never tested the Droid model. I had a Plus (5m) at first and now I have a Pulse (5m). It’s not a model I would have opted for as I don’t do much freestyle (my practice is more freeride/freerace), but wow it really feels great! I find it super maneuverable / easy in tacks / jibes. When it comes to long speed runs, I think it’s quite good too. Even if it’s not its core program, it just flies! I love the rigid handles too! The small diameter feels really nice. Just like the boom of my Pulse by the way (I really like the rigid handles and boom so for me textile handles are a thing of the past now…). The small wingspan is a real asset too! If I’m not mistaken, this is the most compact wing in the range. To sum it up, even if you are not a freestyler like the GONG team, it is still a super wing that will not disappoint you at any point!”

UPE construction

“Well, I took a slap… GONG announces 28% lighter, 5x stiffer and 2x more resistant. Those are the numbers, but what does it feel like? Well, super rigid and super light! In terms of sensation, it’s really impressive, especially the lightness for me. I’m not sure that it revolutionizes my practice in the sense that, I don’t think that it improves my performance (at my level), but on the other hand it is pleasant and comfortable. So if you are hesitating between the Dacron or UPE model: yes there is a clear difference! It’s not just marketing and numbers. I would say it mostly depends on your budget. If you have the means, why not? It’s just a plus. If you have a limited budget, this may be up for discussion. There you go, that’s it for my feedback on my Droid UPE!
