Two-part feedback from Hell June, GONG ambassador, who has set himself the goal for his 50th birthday of flying on his own strength with the Cruzader 7’6 XL FSP Pro. A challenge that illustrates that even a rider with very limited SUP experience can make it happen.

“Well thank you Patrice Guénolé and Fred Gong, but hey, we don’t start from the same level in SUPing??? . My background in stand-up paddleboards is close to zero. All I did before is a few strolls on a lake with a Couine Marie 12″. That sure does not make me an expert! But as I decided that I was going to fly a foil with only the strength of my arms before my 50th birthday, it’s now or never (I have a few weeks left) ! Test conditions: after a 2-hour long wing foiling session with the Cruzader (which confirms my first impressions of yesterday regarding the interest of this board in light wind conditions), the wind is picking up a little, 15 knots with bumps of 20 cm… So I decided to put the wing away and I came back with the paddle (Carbon Pro without much pretension…?). Let’s be honest, I embarrassed myself at first… It might not seem like a big difference but a wing in your hands is a huge help. The paddle only is a whole different ball game. I spent more than 15 minutes trying to row without falling every 10 seconds. Then I finally all came together, I understood where to position myself, how to row in a comma to go more or less straight and feel the rhythm of the wavelets pushing me to accelerate… and then I think it clicked, I felt the glide, felt the foil starting to push, felt that I could make the board pump… A little something was missing to trigger the flight, a better paddling technique, a little more juice, a little more tailwind or waves of 25cm instead of 20, maybe a slightly larger foil and a slightly shorter mast (I was on Veloce XXL-H with the HM85). In short, I am not looking for excuses but I think I have passed a first milestone… I don’t know if I expected it to be easier or harder but I really enjoyed this first outing… I definitely don’t regret the purchase of this Cruzader 7’6 XL… I’ll keep you posted on the rest of my adventures!”
A handful of sessions later…
