Just back from a trip to South Africa, Tristan shares his thoughts on the Ayto Aramid DP from the Team Series collection, which was part of his quiver bag!
Kitesurfer: Airton, GONG team rider, with an Ayto Aramid DP and Steez Carbon Pro twintip.
On land
“Feedback after two weeks in South Africa with the Ayto Aramid DP. Starting with aesthetics, the design was unanimously loved by my friends—these kites are stunning. The quality inspires confidence, with solid stitching and plenty of reinforcements in Dacron and Insigna on the structure. Sure, this does noticeably increase the kite’s weight, but there's no doubt it's built to last. As for the UPE Aramid leading edge, the material shows no signs of wear after many sessions.”
Big Air Performance
“The Ayto Aramid DP is a kite with excellent lift that requires proper tuning to be fully optimized. However, this is not a problem as the kite's high wind range is comfortable, likely thanks to its aerodynamic design, boosted by a thinner leading edge and the Double Profile. The kite handles gusts well, staying stable in the window, so you're not yanked around. Don’t hesitate to power up the kite for big jumps, which has worked great for me, with several sessions at 20 meters plus. The hangtime is impressive, which is uncommon for such responsive kites, and it’s a blast for tricks like board-offs, etc.”
Kiteloops
“As for kiteloops, it's pure joy! The loop is quick but not overly so, which keeps you from being thrown off by a rapid loop. The standout feature of the kite is its recovery: it climbs at an incredible speed, no matter the size. I've never enjoyed looping a 10m this much. The 6m gave me the confidence to attempt my first double loops, which I landed right away in my first session thanks to its incredibly quick recovery. That wouldn’t have been possible with my previous kite. Generally, I suggest trimming by at least 2 cm to avoid overloading, which can reduce the kite's recovery speed.”
Surf
“I really enjoyed doing surf kite sessions with my 6m and 8m. To maximize maneuverability, I adjusted the back lines to the fastest setting. The Ayto Aramid DP performs excellently here, as it has a great low-end range, allowing me to slightly underpower and enjoy a quicker kite.”
