Choose an inflatable SUP for surfing
Many of you ask us the question of which inflatable SUP to choose to go surfing, and many of you hesitate between the Couine Marie ShortSUP, Longboard and Allround.
Here are some elements to decide between them and help you better define your needs.
Some general points
The smaller the size of the board, the slower it will be when paddling.
The smaller the size of the board, the better handling it will have. But this maneuverability will only be achieved with speed. So a short board will offer less glide, so you have to compensate with a larger wave size.
The more you increase the size of the board, the faster it will be when paddling, so you move faster to catch a set that rises in the distance. The difference will also be made in the take off, a longer board reduces the row effect, so less time wasted having to change sides to row, we are more efficient, so we are less likely to miss the coming set 😉
With a longer board, you can start surfing before the wave breaks, and it will allow you to surf small waves. Because it will easily generate its own speed.
In order to find your way around more easily, we can consider boards of 9′ and less as short boards, and boards of 10′ and more as long boards.
The Couine Marie ShortSUP
Among the shortest of the three, therefore the most manageable but also the slowest when rowing, but a fine nose which gives it a very good glide. A very good choice for a program focused mainly on surfing. Beware, maneuverability is only achieved if speed is part of the equation. The shorter boards will only look great in waves that are at least a hip size.

The Couine Marie Longboard
A round nose that provides stability, and which has the shape of a typical longboard board, an interesting choice if you want to nose ride, and alternate with a some cruising. Note that the pad goes all the way to the nose: great comfort!

The Couine Marie Allround 10’9
The fastest of the three, whether cruising, taking off or surfing. It is a board that will be surfed while gliding, ideal in waves with less power and small size. Its length allows you to catch waves that have not yet broken. A very good choice to alternate cruising and surfing.

Here’s the 10’9 Allround in action
Your choice will also be determined by your level, if you are a beginner, choose length.
It will also depend on the type of waves surfed. The smaller they are, between knee size and hip size, the more length you will have to choose, like the Couine Marie Allround 10’9. The more the size of the waves will increase, the more you can afford to reduce the size of the board. Because by reducing the length of the board, you reduce its inertia, so you have to compensate with more powerful or bigger waves.

Cordialement
